Ron Dunbar (W0PN)

Nov. 27,2010

Earlier this weekend Ron Dunbar W0PN died from a massive Heart Attack. According to his Son he had had another stroke about two months ago from which he never fully recovered. Ron was an Avid Weak Signal VHF and UHF Radio operator. Back in the 70s and 80s you could find him every night on two meters either SSB or CW working weak signal DX. Ron was a significant contributor to the Amsat Programs, especially Phase III where he was one of the command and control stations. Ron was a retired IBM Employee who then went on and Worked at Minnesota Power for several years. Ron later joined Orbital Science Corp and was responsible for their launch program of civilian satelites. Over the years Ron received many awards for his contributions to Amateur Radio, including the John Chambers W6NLZ (SK) Award from the Central States VHF Society in 1984. All of your friends will remember you for all of your achievements and your generous help and friendship to all who needed it. To those of us lucky enough to have you as a personal friend a hugh void has opened in our hearts. Rest In Piece my friend.
