Paul Wilson (K4RUP)

September 26, 2010

When I was 14, I was told Paul Wilson K4RUP could administer my Technician test. He did, I flunked. Paul owned Rose Radio TV Service in High Point NC, my home town. He told me to just come down to the shop after school and he would tutor me. I ended up working for him after school and on Saturdays. I passed my Technician Exam next try. When I graduated from High School, he recommended I join the Navy as he had done after High School. I did and stayed for 24 years. He was always there for me, from fixing my first transmitter (a Heath DX-40), to driving me to hamfests, to recommending solutions to hard troubleshooting issues, right up until his death. He taught me repair techniques I still use to this day. I have enjoyed two successful careers based on his guidance, work ethic, and values. I now own his old Viking Valiant and will treasure it. I shall miss him the rest of my days. He is one of the finest men I have ever known.
