Roger Perkins (W1OJ)

July 2011

I heard of Rogers passing yesterday by accident. Roger was a good friend for many years. He was one smart dude. I enjoyed every minute of company with him and his love of mini horses was pretty cool. He owned the 448.625 repeater on Mt Wachusett and was the Fema region 1 comm mgr for many many years. I had the pleasure of working directly with Roger for several weeks as part of his comm team after hurricane Hugo in 1989, we reconstructed comms in the USVI for all the govt branches. Roger you will be missed.

Roger will be missed. We visited him many times when my daughter was around 5 or 6 (...she's 24 now.) and he even let her and a friend help out at the Bolton Fair! He was THAT kind of good guy. Have known him since 1967, will miss him forever.

Roger was not only a friend but a elmer to me.First met him through a mutual friend about 15 years ago.At the time I was a young new ham with lots of questions. Roger didn't mind my questions and encouraged me to keep in touch and let him know my progress of setting up my station. We enjoyed many visits over the years including a great visit at his place with my grandad who had met Roger probably 20 years before this. That was during the (Technical Heavies days). I enjoyed helping Rog with climbing his towers doing some maintenence.I will miss the qso's about antennas and dxing and glad we became friends. cu agn W1OJ de W1DXH ..
