Don't know what to say. You will be missed

My favorite column in QST, The World Above 50 MHz, will always be my favorite because of the insight that Mr. Zimmerman brought to the subject of VHF/UHF. Because of him, I am in the process of upgrading my station to be 6-meter capable. He will be sorely missed!

I very much considered Gene a friend. We would try to get in a good visit at the CSVHF conference, which he attended while being the Above 50MHz editor. He loved the hobby and was a great ambassador of VHF/UHF/Microwave. In August 2009 we even had a chance to work each other on 2m Es, one of the most elusive 2m propagation modes. COOL. I would always catch Gene on 6m during the Es season and we would catch up. I already miss hearing Zed Zed pour forth from the K3 speaker. He is now "working the weak ones" on the highest of bands. The VERY BEST of DX Gene.

Gene, W3ZZ, was a great friend and spokesman for amateur
radio. He had the unique ability not to get hung up on side
issues but to articulate the main thing. I admired his
courage greatly! In the midst of physical challenges he
never lost his positive view toward life and those who he
interacted with. Gene, thank you for your positive presence
and giving hope to the human existence.

Gene, was a friend. I remember chatting with
him numerous times on the VHF, UHF and
Microwave bands. He attended most of the
conferences as a guest speaker. I still
remember him telling the tail of running of
the mountain during a thunderstorm. I will
really miss him. Rest in peace Gene....
73 for now,
