Steve Gollias (K9SSG)

February 22, 2013

Steve passed away suddenly Friday afternoon Feb 22, 2013. He was a fixture on 2m simplex in McHenry Co. as well as some Chicago repeaters. He will be missed. Steve leaves behind his wife and best friend Annie.

Steve sure looks familiar. ALSO David Whaley is a familiar name to me. I had a "Whaley" in my Platoon (U.S.Army) just can't remember where at this moment. My last Call Sign was K4SFC, the rank I retired with.

My wife Karen & I met Steve at a monthly get together Breakfast in McHenry, IL. Steve was always the life of the crowd, making all of us laugh and be happy. Steve occasionally would bring his wife Annie and we discovered she's a wonderful person. We will deeply miss Steve as a friend and as an Amateur Radio Operator. I know Steve was very proud to get his license and his vanity Call Sign since SSG were his initials. Steve had great dreams of upgrading to General but also to enjoy operating 10 m, 6 m, 2 m & 70 cm on SSB and FM. Steve, Rest In Peace and Know that your friends will stop by and talk to Annie every chance they have. WA9WVX & WB9YCW
