Robert Block (K6LX)

February 12, 2013

Robert was born July 5, 1933 in San Francisco. He was an avid ham, sailor, traveler, and genealogy researcher. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio man, posted to Germany from 1954-1957. After returning to California, he completed his degree in Physics at U.C. Berkeley, earning the Phi Beta Kappa award. He worked as a physicist before receiving his law degree from U.C. Berkeley. He had a rewarding career as a patent, copyright and trademark attorney with Northrop Grumman and retired in 1992. He and his wife, Sheila MacAvoy, moved to Santa Barbara where he formed a partnership with another attorney. He was a member of the St. Francis Yachy Club since 1969. An enthusiastic traveler with his wife of over 20 years, he completed his last trip to the ruins of Pompeii in November 2012 and was planning a trip to Scotland when he died. Robert liked to quote the Irish poet, Tom MacIntyre: "Climb, traveller, or stiffen on the plain." May he rest in peace.

I will always be grateful for Robert reaching out to me several years ago when I responded to an ad in QST seeking information about the 20M "Friends of Bill W" net. I was in need of help and Robert personally called me and gave me encouragement and invited me to join the net. Thank you Robert and 73. Russ Payne, W8ATA.
