Seth Kolb (N3AZH)

October 15, 2014

I went to high school with Seth back in the 1980s. I didn't know him then, but knew of him through mutual friends and acquaintances. I officially met Seth in college at Duquesne University where Seth was a psychology and music major. It was my freshman year and I was interested in reviving the schools ham radio club. during our 4 year tenure at Duquesne, both Seth and I, through the Club Coordinator, Fr. Cliff Hill W3GLA, made the club station's pair of Collins Twins sing with a big signal pointed to Europe. What great fun we had when we were between classes! After graduation Seth went to New York state to pursue a career in counseling people who suffer from addiction. Through the years, Seth suffered through his own addiction problems, fighting alcohol and drug abuse. When he returned to Pittsburgh in 2004 to take care of his aging parents, he had changed. The years of abuse had taken their toll on his body. On many occasions, Seth thankfully had cheated death. That is until this past week where he succumbed to his problems, passing of natural causes at the age of 49. His transgressions aside, Seth was a highly intelligent individual who wanted to help people in need and with the same kind of problems as he had. He was a talented rock & roll/blues guitarist. And was a guns a blaze'n CW operator who loved working DX. In fact, he was very proud to have worked ZD9XF just a few weeks ago on 12 meters and was excited about getting a qsl card from that qso. He loved Ham Radio, DXing, Music and the people in his life, in spite of the demons he was fighting....Seth, life and the ham radio airways will not be the same. Riding home from work and not being able to talk with you about music and dxing on the .03 machine will take a lot of getting used to. I pray for your soul and I hope you have found the peace that you struggled to obtain in your earthly life. God Bless You, Seth Kolb...You will be sorely missed....N3AZH DE K3NRX...AR SK....
