Joe Plesich (W8DYF)

November 1, 2014

Joe Plesich, W8DYF, of Steubenville, Ohio, died suddenly, Saturday November 1, 2014, at his home. He was 77 years old. Joe held an Extra Class license and was very active in Amateur Radio in the Steubenville, Ohio, and Weirton, West Virginia, areas. He held the office of Treasurer in SWARC (the Steubenville-Weirton Amateur Radio Club). He was also a member of the OSSBN (Ohio SSB Net, traffic net) where checked in regularly and was number five on the list of OSSBN Life Members. He was also a member of the Straight Key Century Club. Joe held a DXCC award, among many other accomplishments. He operated regularly on the local repeaters (mostly 2 Meters), and was very active on the HF bands, on both SSB and CW. Joe was a Life Member of the ARRL since back in the 70s. He was an accomplished author, having published articles in all the major Amateur Radio magazines since 1970. Joe had been licensed since the mid-50s, having been a Ham for around 60 years. He was on the air on some frequency just about every day and was well known and liked by all who spoke with him. Joseph was retired from Toronto (Ohio) City Schools, where he was a guidance counselor. Funeral home calling hours are Thursday, November 6, 2014, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville, Ohio. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Steubenville, Ohio. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio. Sadly, the local repeaters as well as the HF bands will be a little quieter without W8DYF. . . . 73 OM - we will ALL miss you very much!
