Wilf Gaye (M0GYE)

Nov 6, 2014

Wilf Gaye, M0GYE, Silent Key Sadly Wilf, who recently resigned as Chairman of the Hastings Electronic and Radio Club due to ill health, died on Thursday 6th November. Wilf joined the Committee at the AGM in 2011, was elected Vice-chairman in 2012 and took over the Chair from me in May last year. His talk, The Largest Aspidistra in the World, on the 500kW propaganda broadcast station built at Kingstanding in the Ashdown Forest during the war and where he served his apprenticeship, was typical of Wilf; fascinating, meticulously researched and peppered with amusing personal recollections. His demonstrations of SDR at the Club with his Flex1500 impressed us all & inspired several members to adopt that medium. His chairmanship of the Club despite increasing ill health was impressive and his contribution to the Club will be greatly missed. RIP Wilf. Phil, G3MGQ
