John R. Vodenik (WB9AUJ)

October 20, 2015

John was from Gary, Indiana and served as a Communications Technician and Engineer with Voice of America. He worked at the Bethany Relay Station in Ohio, Delano Relay Station in California and the Washington D.C. Headquarters. I met him while was at Bethany as I grew up just a few miles from there. He helped set up our local radio club MONIX to hold our monthly meetings there. John attended several of the Winter SWL Fests in PA and was also a fellow Scanner Scum member. I will cherish the times when he would call me up to come over to BRS and I would get to hang with him and just chat while VOA programming was transmitting around the world on shortwave. John was an expert on HF transmission and built some fabulous antennas over the years. He will be greatly missed.
