Fell in love with amateur radio back in 1975. Got my Class "C" certificate in 1976. Got my Class A in the following years. Before obtaining my license as LZ2CJ in 1982 used to operate from LZ1KAA until 1978 and from 1978 to 1982 from LZ1KDP.

My favourite bands have always been and are 80 and 160m. Made and confirmed 100 countries on 160m within just 12 months period at the time when half of European countries were not allowed to operate at all on top band / incl. ON4UN  :-) / Never applied for 160m DXCC since never been keen on collecting DX awards. Had  2 phased verticals array at that time and used an amplifier on one GU81. Had 5 Beverages with W8LRL preamplifier. ( W1BB and W8LRL were my Elmers on top band and earlier PA0GMW on 80m )  Made first ever LZ - W/K, LZ - JA, LZ - VK and LZ - ZL top band QSOs.

Contesting

My contesting Elmer was Lew K4VX. ( over the radio of course in those years )

Started my contest activity while been at LZ1KDP and won 1st place World SOAB SSB only in IARU 1982. Continued in 1983 as LZ2CJ winning many times No.1 SOSB 160m SSB Europe in CQWW contest. Won 1st place World SOSB  160m SSB in CQWW twice - in 1984 ( set EU record which stood for over 20 years ) and in 2001. Won also 1st place World SOSB 160m in WPX SSB 1986 and in CQWW 160m SSB 1986 and 1987.

In 2002 have been involved in founding, now famous, LZ9W Multi-Multi Contest Team and I remain "chief" operator at  LZ9W 160m operating position ever since :-).

Will be happy to work you in the next WPX or CQWW contest from LZ9W - so call us :-) !
