Henry O`Connor Stationsvej 12 4241 Vemmelev Denmark

Being the son of OZ6PK means you are born into hamradio. I got my licens in the mid sixties and started out with a SMH(19) tranciever LOOK AT THE PIC. AT THE TOP,which had lived its early days in an english second World War tank, output max. 10 watt. A couple of years later we were fortunate to have a Heathkit HW-12 in the house and with a homebrew amplifier 2kw out, I worked the whole world on 80/75 meter. I still have good memories on the nightly dx hunting with people as Stan GW3AX, LA5KG, ON4UN and many many more. Antenna at the time was a 3 elm. wirebeam at sixty feet. When the time came and I had to choose my way of living, I became a wireless operator on board a ship near Greenland as OX3DX and the Faroes as OY3DX.  I got my own family, house, kids and finished sailing and became a school teacher. That of couse, ment that ham radio activity became a less part of my life. Then at the start of the eightties it all stopped, the interest was down to a minimum and I sold the gear I had left. At that time I thought I never would get inte amateur radio again. I began to learn how to play the guitar. In the 1987 I bought a pub in a small town Slagelse (80 km. west of Copenhagen) where I met a lot of fine musicians. Slowly I got better on the guitar and when I in 1990, sold the pub, I decided that from now on I would live as a prof. musician. I have done so in 18 years and have had a fantastic life in music. My cdes are often played in national radio, I have been on national tv several times and have appeared in several european countries. Then last year I met an old friend, (radio amateur) and we talked about the early days with (REAL hamradio). Slowly my interest came back. Then at autumn 2007 I jumped into it and bought an FT-857d and an old 500w linear. My antenna is a flagpole, 12 meter high with a 4 meter topload. It workes as a 5/8 vertical with 100, 10.5 radials meter each, for 20 meter. On 30 meter as a half wave. With a capacitor used as an extended 1/4 vertical for 40 and as a shortened vertical for 80. When mobile the antenna is  homemade for all bands. Mostly qrv on cw from the home qth. I guess that the saying, once ham radio and you are stucked with it the rest of your life is the truth. I`m now looking forward to meet old and new friends on the bands. Best 73 and cu sn de OZ3FireDepartment/Henry. As ham radio these days also include the internet, I am to find on echolink and skype under the name    henryoconnor
