Reviews Summary for Begali Mono Basic
Begali Mono Basic Reviews: 2 Average rating: 4.5/5 MSRP: $180
Description: This is the least expensive Begali single-lever key. An ingenious split-lever mechanism, mounted on a cast iron base, makes for an exceptionally precise key which can take a lot of abuse without showing a trace. This is the ideal key for field day situations and for operators on a budget.
Product is in production.

An absolute delight to use, but with one annoying quirk  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
This key is incredibly smooth and an absolute delight to use. The base isn't fancy, but it's a solid piece of metal that keeps ham-handed-hams like me from walking it around on their desk while using it. I absolutely love it.

So why a 4, rather than a 5? Would you believe the cable connection?

You see, the screws holding the ring terminals of the key cable in place do double duty as the screws holding the contact posts and the lever arm supports in place. To connect or disconnect the key cable from the key, you have to *completely* disassemble the whole blasted key. Which of course means you have to readjust contact spacing and lever tension as well. A truly bizarre design decision, and most irritating.

But it's such a sweet key that it's worth it.

Begali precision at a bargain price  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I bought this key to round out my ever-growing Begali collection, and it has been a worthwhile addition. Despite the "basic" moniker, this key performs every bit as well as the Simplex Mono key - that is no surprise since it actually uses the same mechanism, just mounted on the rugged cast base that was first used for the Simplex Basic dual-lever paddle. This key will take a beating without showing any finger prints or smudges. If you are a beginner who wants to explore single-lever operation with Begali precision without breaking the bank, or if you want something for field day without having to worry about lasting signs of abuse, this key is a very good choice. I suspect that it will see a lot of use around my shack.
