Vintage Boat Anchor
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

An overall great example of both WRL engineering and a mid-high level model of standard 1950's technology. It uses odd tubes in the final -- Amperex AX9909 pentodes -- which are obtainable only at great expense. It's a true boat anchor, weighing in at 110 lbs. This particular unit was purchased by my Dad (W5JHJ - SK) in May of 1959 and is a good example of the type. I used this transmitter as a Novice starting in 1970. The design is straightforward and most of the components are available save for the very specialized band switches, meters and the like.
