Easily resolves lack of com ports on any PC w/o serial ports.  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Pretty much plug & play, at least with Win7. The only hitch was figuring out that port #1 was COM15, port #2 was COM16, etc.
Byte Runner makes other configurations with fewer ports for lower costs.
This unit uses external power (wal-wart), supplied.
I have a laptop in the shack and was using wye cables to daisy-chain RS232 cables. That works but is very limiting.
