Far too limited  Time owned: months
The thing that amazes me is that CQ is on the shelves at bookstores. Given that the content is so incredibly limited, it makes me wonder how they get the shelf space. I've only picked up a single copy or two in the last several years, invariably for a single article. If your major interest in life is contesting, have fun. If not, look to QST as better targeted to general interest reading related to radio.

OK, but VERY expensive  Time owned: more than 12 months
CQ is a good magazine, usually provides a good read with some interesting articles. As another reviewer has said, it's become more of a contestor's magazine now. The biggest negative is the cost, $36 a year is WAY too much for a magazine subscription. I've been a subscriber for about 6 years and when this one runs out later this year, i won't be resubscribing.

Dave Ingram made it a "5"  Time owned: more than 12 months
My "5" is to Dave Ingram and his great QRP and CW columns.

The only reason I ever purchased CQ. Looked through it at the magazine rack. If Dave was in it, it was purchased.

Had the pleasure of a recent CW QRP contact him.

Used to be a good Ham mag  Time owned: more than 12 months
CQ used to be a good alternative to QST. QST had the best construction articles and then CQ and 73 had the rest. I used to look forward to some good construction articles in the annual Antenna and RTTY issues. Now its just a (mostly) HF Contest magazine. I won't renew unless it gets better. I also subscribe to CQ-VHF which comes out quarterly but I think is a great magazine.

I like CQ  Time owned: more than 12 months
I do look forward to receiving CQ. The arrival date in a given month is unpredictable but it does come in. I hope it comes for Feb. My regular subscription ran out but I got 1 year coming free from one of those survey cards that you mail back.

Bring Bak WR  Time owned: months
I am losing a life membership to World Radio for this piece of bird cage paper. I will be getting this thing for about three years. But I do have a use for it. The latrines at my summer camp will suit it well. Maybe if they rid themselves of some of their editorial staff it will make a good compliment to QST.

Contesters Magazine  Time owned: more than 12 months
Over the years CQ has turned into a contesters magazine. I don't contest so I could care less about page after page of contest results. That is why I haven't subscribed to CQ this year. CQ is your magazine if you are interested in contest results and are lucky enough to get your picture somewhere there-in.

What? It has ads?  Time owned: more than 12 months
Fine publication! They do a good job of offering articles and columns that are of interest to a wide range of amateurs. You can't please everybody every month, but I look forward to both CQ and QST showing up in the mailbox.

For those who complain about ads: I'm sure if we were willing to pay $100 per issue, they'd drop the ad content. Personally, I enjoy seeing most of the ads...though I wish some stores would do something besides show the same thumbnail shots of the fronts of the same rigs every month!

And those who say the subscription price is too much must live very sheltered lives. Price GOLF DIGEST or FIELD and STREAM. Check subscription rates of magazines devoted to model airplanes, geo-caching, biking, hot-rodding, antique collecting, or other hobbies. Would you rather CQ added articles for SWLs, CBers, video-gamers, and computer nerds just so they could gain more subscribers and lower the subscription price?

For the cost of a few fast-food lunches, we get a year's worth of a very professionally done magazine devoted specifically to our hobby. I, for one, am thankful for it.

Good Alternative  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have been a subscriber for a number of years now. The magazine over all is good with relevant articles that are clearly worded for the common amateur not the ones who hold doctorates in engineering. I find it very easy reading. Price wise it could be better but it has a limited audience unlike the mags that appeal to the masses which increases the cost. I am a life member of ARRL (best money I ever spent years ago) and always receive QST which I find to be more technical than CQ aside from the endless contest results. I like the technical articles in QST better but then I am an electrical engineer. As for World Radio, I find it to be extremely right wing oriented and extremely amateurish in their articles and publication. It reminds me of the paper rags you see at the grocery store such as National Enquirer - completely without any validity. I get free copies from time to time which I use to line the kitty box.

gone up , but so has everthing , still good  Time owned: months
I like the magazine, Gordon West articles I
like, old radio articles interesting. yes, they have ad ,but so does arrl pub, without the how wonnerful we are and cought it up , for donation plugs thu the mail all the time , like arrl, I cannot afford a second mortgage for arrl mag , membership. on cq, try sub, when they have a ' spring fever' cut, even then, I onely do one year at time. would like to see propagation forcast in english , not ' flux numbers, just tell me how the band is doing in plain language, old radio articles intesting. and seeing young hams write good articles, teenages shows thee are some smart ones out there, home schooled? anyway good to give arrl sme competiton, flame on 73 terry kg4ymc heck, when the wealth gets spread around will be able to afford it more, and one brand of socialist radio , should be intesting 4 years ..
