Good Bench Meter  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Bird made a whole series of these from the 1950's through the 1980's. The rating on the load can be from 80W to 500W. Check the load with an ohm meter to verify it's still 50 ohms. They tend to drift up with age, down with overheating. 10 percent error is normal. Make sure there is at least one diode plug and it is good. Was originally done for a government contract and built like a battleship. Got released for commercial service and sent all over the world. Bird no longer supports it and has no parts. They are still in general use and can be repaired by other shops. It takes a while to heat one of these up. The most popular was the model 611.
