Nothing in UK to compare with it

A member of RSGB (with a short break) for nearly 50yrs.
For technical articles relating to the hobby, also DX news and propagation predictions, and many other regular features it is way out the best publication in UK for the hobby.
With the January 2006 issue it has taken on a new publication style which I think is good.

Good overall

I've been taking Radcom since 1984, and although it dumbed-down and started to resemble the 'Beano' a couple of years ago, it has now regained its equilibrium and is a good read once again. Pat Hawker's TT is without doubt the highlight, and I also find 'EMC' very interesting in these days of mounting noise on our bands. I must say I get cheesed off with the 'DX-pedition' articles ('Stan amazed us by eating a full English breakfast on the boat'...'We had forgotten the P60 but Carlos generously allowed us to erect a dipole from his mother's washing post..') Yawn... but that's down to personal preference.
All in all, the best UK radio mag.

Not bad

A while ago Radio Comic went through a phase of being very dumbed down and for me at least it became irrelevant to my needs in amateur radio. I am glad to say that over the last few years it has come back up to standard and now includes construction articles with a lot of "meat".
The regular columns are pretty good, but are only as good as the people who send reports and information into them.
If Rad Com stays at its current level then I can see it being relevant to me for a long time to come.

Excellent - the magazine to read in the UK

RadCom has changed a lot over the years but remains easily the best amateur radio magazine published in the UK. It has a good mix of operating and technical articles and I eagerly await each edition. Radcom is well worth the price of joining the RSGB.

I've been an avid reader since joining the RSGB in 1964. Even during long years of inactivity, I always looked forward to it arriving in the post - it's such a good well-balanced read. G3VA's Technical Topics column alone would be worth the cost of membership. It's reassuring that it hasn't yet dumbed down (unlike QST) and I hope it never will. There have been some great constructional projects over the many years that I've been a reader. Practical Wireless caters adequately for the less technically inclined.

I agree with VE1MCT. Radcom is very good value and an excellent read. There is something in there for everyone, whether your into contests, homebrews, techie topics or the latest news.
I truly can't think of any subject that is missing. I take my hat off to the editor and others who work so hard to provide such an interesting mag every month. It must be very galling if nobody offers a thank you. So from me, thanks.

Best choice for UK ham

RadCom is the monthly publication from the Radio Society of Great Britian, for members. Similar to QST and ARRL. RSGB membership is £38.50 for UK addresses. It is about 100 pages per issue.
It is hard not to compare RadCom to QST, they are similar in purpose and product, and I think it is fair to say QST is bigger and better. So far I haven't had a problem with RadCom and RSGB politics, a common complaint about QST, but I also tend to be easy going and the RSGB hasn't annoyed me too much. Compared to Practial Wireless it is a hands down winner, with better production, larger, and more variety, but it is also more "advanced". PW, like CQ Communications in USA, an "easier" read. I've read some issues of PW in 10-15 minutes, whereas RadCom is over an hour always.
It has a mix of technical topics, construction which tends to be more advanced than simple, history, and the usual monthly reports.
