Reviews Summary for Wouxun Audio Filter
Wouxun Audio Filter Reviews: 1 Average rating: 5.0/5 MSRP: $59.95
Description: This switched capacitor audio filter is a compact, useful
accessory for the X1M or any other transceiver. It is a very
useful device to sharpen the pass band for CW work, plus it may
be set for SSB voice reception. The center frequency is
adjustable from 400 to 1100 Hz and bandwidth is adjustable from
60 to 1800 Hz. Power can be provided by a 9v battery (external)
or 12v power supply via a standard 5.5 x 2.1 mm power jack
(center pin positive). The LED on the front indicates when the
power on and when power is off, the filter is bypassed. The left
hand knob sets the center frequency for the audio output and the
right hand knob sets the bandwidth. With bandwidth set at
maximum, the filter provides satisfactory SSB audio. One 3.5 mm
stereo jack on the back is for audio input and the other jack
provides output to headphones, amplified computer speaker or
other device.

This device is so simple that is doesn't come with operating
instructions. If you don't know how to use it, ask before you
buy.
Product is in production.

Excellent after modifications  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
This is a SCAF type filter. They are excellent for CW since they do not tend to ring. This filter is no exception however like ALL SCAF filters, it is very sensitive to RFI from the transmitter. In fact this filter was totally unusable even with a QRP rig due to RF feeding back into the filter.
So I remove the covers and was shocked to see that the aluminum cover was not in any way attached to the ground on the circuit board. I was able to attach a very fine wire at each end of the ground trace and attache the other end under the control nut and under a screw head. I then installed bypass capacitors across all three jacks, power, input and output.
Results were excellent. Even with the amplifier I have no unwanted crud from the filter and cw has never sounded better using my headphones or my beloved MFJ-281 speaker which BTW is the ultimate cw speaker at any price.
