Description: The Par End-Fedz are a full length half wave dipoles, but
with an important difference. The coax connector is at one
end of the dipole, where it is most needed. These antennas
can be mounted horizontally, vertically or as a sloper. No
ground plane or counterpoise is needed. Portable operation
could not be easier. Simply hang the far end from a tree
limb–the coax is at the bottom. Hang it up in a hotel window
or string it up in the attic. End insulators are supplied
making suspension easy

Simple wire antenna  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
All end-fed dipoles such as the EF-30 I bought are simply 1/2 wave wire dipoles with the feed point at the end instead of the middle and as such are easier to hang. That's why I bought the EF-30.

The Par Electronics EF-30 construction is excellent and easy to install. However, read the ARRL Antenna book, end-fed antennas are a lot noisier than the traditional 1/2 wave dipole, this has nothing to do with the EF-30 design! Switching between my 1/2-wave center-fed dipole and the EF-30 you can certainly hear the difference in noise!!

There's ways to minimize the noise issue, however Par Electronics website offers no such help, so be ready to crack your ARRL Antenna book for suggestons.

As to performance, given the raised noise level, I would rate the EF-30 a little less effective than a full-size 1/2-wave dipole. Again, this has nothing to do with the EF-30 design, just laws of physics.

For anyone looking for an easy dipole install and you're willing to live with a noisier wire antenna, then maybe an end-fed dipole is right for you -- remember, there's nothing special about end-fed dipoles other than they fit in smaller places.
