Great radio for the price  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Just bought this radio from Gigaparts with the LDG AL-100 tuner. Radio has great audio, easy to operate, nice size, not a lot of hidden options, nice display with large numbers. There are only 23 menu options. Very nice receive, and having the ability turn on a preamp is good. The 500 Hz narrow filer is great on cw.

One difference between this model and older SR8's is that this model came with the latest firmware which offers a 23rd menu option which is the ability to swap the functions of the squelch, IF, and RIT controls around. Don't know why anyone would do this but the option is there.

I do advise using an external speaker as the radio's speaker is not that great. I wish the audio could be adjusted to give a little more treble though.

The major downside to this radio is adjusting the mic gain, beep volume, and sidetone volume. You have to take off the bottom cover and find the appropriate micro-sized variable resistors in order to adjust these three items. I had to use a magnifying glass and eyeglass screw driver to make the adjustments (adjust with power off, turn on to see if you like setting. If not, turn power off and make a small adjust, etc etc. Why in the world Alinco would not provide a front panel access option for these adjustments is beyond me.

But other than that, I love this radio. With a 10 meter dipole about 1 foot off my roof, my first contact was a fellow in Morocco. Not bad.

The tuner is great!
