Fine for what it is, I guess  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I bought this on a whim while shopping at Microcenter. For $50, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Not sure I would do that again..

Pros: Ample audio, solid antenna, good ergonomics, audio reports from others was good. Good sensitivity. Programs fine with CHIRP if you tell CHIRP it is a Baofeng UV-82. (Get a good USB cable).

Cons: Battery says 2800mah, I doubt it, 1800mah seems more like it. The volume knob comes off too easy, had to shim it with a piece of plastic. Installed the battery, cannot get it off without a hammer. When the battery goes, the radio goes. Came with the belt clip installed but one of the screws must have been over torqued...ruined the screw getting it off. Biggest gripe is that it does not just "drop into the charger". One has to be sure two slots on the battery line up with two guides on the charger. The charger blinks green/red when nothing is inserted in it... why? It's annoying. Anybody at Baofeng field test these things?? I doubt it...

The Pofung GT-5 is NOT in the same class as Motorola, Yaesu, or Icom. If I had to do it over, I would have saved some more funds and bought the Yaesu FT-60R.

A Baofeng UV-82 in another package  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
If you like the Baofeng UV-82, you will probably like this one too. It uses the same hardware and is identical up to the firmware version. This also means that you won't notice any difference in performance between the two radios, and that typical UV-82/UV-5R quirks are still there.

That said, the GT-5 offers better ergonomics. The radio feels better in your hand, and the new keypad has some advantages too: better backlight performance, and the information on the keys doesn't come off easily.

The reverse LCD - the only technical difference between the UV-82 and the GT-5 - is something you either love or hate.

I would have loved to see the same upgraded chip set used in the GT-3 Mark II. The lack of upgraded hardware and firmware prevents this radio to get a 5 out of 5.

so far so good  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I own 2 UV-5R radios and wanted to give this latest model a try.
The GT5 outperforms the 5R radios on both reception and audio quality.
The backlighting is easier to see in sunlight as well. Channels Storage has upgraded to 128 compared to 12 of GT-3.
I'll post more detail later after I have had more time to fully check it out!
