Good receiver, but it sound is like a bird chirp at frequencies over 15MHz in SSB MODE.
It don´t receive nothing over 28,500 MHz.
Nothing, nothing indeed in 29 MHz band.
I´m using a 40meter band dipole just over my roof with a 50 ohm LMR400 cable.
Somebody could help me??
Excuse my english errors, I´m in Brazil - São Paulo.
Thanks a lot

You cant have everything

I have owned one of these radios for about 2 yrs,
I consider it to be a good quality piece of gear
but a total pain in the you know what to use.
I usually use this rig without the Sync side band,
frankly I know people rave about it but I find Sync side band works in some situations but in
others it just screeches in your ear, something I can well do without as I always use headphones.
When I bought this radio I did what was recommended by tuning to a MW station and switching between USB&LSB,the reciever
should sound similar but not the same,so I guess
I got a good one.
I must admit that as a streight out reciever it works fine, but those crazy little almost countersunk switches are once again a,pain in the you know what. I have been a fanatic on SWDXing for over 30 yrs and own several portable and tabletop radios, but I can think of no other one
that is so painfull to use,I consider the Grundig
YB400 and several Sangean radios to be as good as
the Sony ICF-SW7600G and far easier to use,I was also very surprised to see Sony use the same stupid switches in the new 7600GR.
As for the Synchronous Selectable Sideband on this
rig its a waste of time.

Typical Sony Quality
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

Solid Sony feel, quirky PB tuning controls (not intuitive!), average tuning capability. Quite sensitive on the antenna, will overload on long wire. Sync detector circuitry is NOT as good as it could/should be, worsens signal retention and causes interupts in fading signals. Average audio, somewhat harsh at times, tiring to listen to for long periods. Battery life is average of the type. All in all a good effort by Sony, looking for a more modern upgrade soon with a GOOD sync implementation and sharper filter settings, better battery life.

Superb WBR at an affordable price

I bought mine in 1990 in preparation to deploy with the 1st Armored Division from Germany to Operation "Desert Shield". It has been through some very rigorous trials, and keeps on going....When I returned to the States in 93, I used it to listen to W1AW to improve my code speed, and I shortly thereafter earned Extra. I currently use it as my bedroom clock radio, with a set of Cambridge Soundworks self powered speakers attached to it. There are still vestiges of Saudi Arabia/Kuwait/Iraq sand in the radio. I'd buy another if this one ever "bit the dust"

Very nice compact Radio

Previously I owned a YachtBoy 400, it's an okay radio. Sold it to buy one that would have LSB & USB selectivity. I fine the unit very easy to operate, very good reception for a portable. The four batteries seem to be very efficient. I use it to monitor some SSB nets when I'm not at home at the HF rig. Very handy for learning CW, as its portable.

Best booksize portable
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

This radio has very clear audio, as many memories as I would want to be bothered with and the selectable sideband synchronous detector works well (especially for getting away from QRM and heterodynes). The sync detector is not as good as the ICF-2010, but that radio's in a different league. That said however, the ICF-SW7600G is the only portable in its class to have a sync detector.
I don't care what Larry Magne says in the Passport to World Band Radio reviews. In my opinion, this is a much better radio than the Grundig YB-400PE (or any of the small Sangeans I've tried).
For what it is, I give it 5 stars.

For a small portable with AM sync at such a low low price is an excellent value. No it's not as good as an expensive tabletop but that's not why you wanted a portable in the first place. It's very sensitive and extremely stable.
A great value!

What's not to like
|

I bought one of these for my dad for SWL and WIAW code practice and bought one for myself! I've had it for 3 years now and love it. I use it to check band openings and monitor several nets and do some SWLing.
Sony changed some of the controls from the earlier version and IMHO seem easy to operate. I've taken this rig on 3 trips to Europe and it's a good traveler - rebounding from a half dozen falls.
Complaints? A few. A local BC (1300kc) has a 3rd harmonic that washes out 3890-3910kc so adjacent freq rejection is weak. It likes to snack on batteries (get some nicads and buy the adaptor!). Not enough memories.
Likes? Small "footprint". 150-29999kc coverage. Nice fine tuning feature. Decent sensitivity and selectivity. Travels well. Typical Sony reliability and performance.
But hey, it's a portable and for less than 2 rocks it hears, sounds, looks and operates well.

I had one of these for 6 weeks then got rid of it and got the better ATS-818.
The actual radio is not too bad in itself. Trouble is its too small and fidgety.and SSB is a nightmare as the tuning controls are so tiny. It is also much to expensive for what it is.
I prefer the ATS-818 in every respect.
If this radio was not made by Sony, and about 1/2 the price it would be OK
I only ever once had dealings with the Sony Company, they just didn't want to know, and they were Crap. I would NEVER recommend these cowboys to anyone
