I like MT a lot!

I find MONITORING TIMES to have just about the "right mix" of electronic subjects for my taste.
I do not agree that the magazine is of little interest outside North America (I live in Panama).
A couple of times that the magazine did not make it in the mail, MT promptly mailed a duplicate. I find their service to be very attentive.
Generally well-witten; little grammar slips once in a while -- usual mix-up between "affect," "effect," "that" and "who."
I am an ARRL member and every month I have a tough time deciding which to look at first: QST or MT!

I'm a lurking ham, listening to world band and scanners more. The hard-copy's great for this. I had password trouble with 1 download issue (the other 11 issues worked). Rather than give me a new password for the download, I was told that it worked for Monitoring Times and recieved no other assistance, even when required. One of the rudest customer/vender interactions I've ever had. I no longer subscribe. There are cheaper, less agrivating ways of getting the same info.

Wildly inaccurate at Times

Monitoring Times is an interesting read in some ways, just don't take their interpretations of what they hear on the Federal networks too seriously. Some of the folks logging the traffic have over-active imaginations or submit guesses. They also use outdated callsign information at times. Unfortunately, they don't distinguish between guesswork and verified fact.

Parochial. There is little here of interest to readers outside North America.

Great Magazine.

I've been a scanner and shortwave listener for over 25 years. This magazine is very well worth the cover price and the customer service (I needed a special request, no problems) is fantastic. I almost considered Popular Communications but since it is published by CQ and I've had nothing but horrible experiences with their other publications, I'm glad I was steered away from them and chose MT instead. It appears that I made the right choice.

Great for radio monitoring

Monitoring Times had great articles about radio monitoring and scanning. There are articles about amateur radio too...but not many
Great for DXers who spend their life just to figure out what frequencies are they listening to ;-)

Nice magazine

I'm not a subscriber but I often pick up a copy at a local bookstore for a quick read. I've even bought a few of them.
As a ham radio operator, I don't find too much of interest in the magazine (that's why I don't subscribe). But as a shortwave listener, it's great. The articles seem well written and interesting. There are news items which I think are of interest to ANY radio enthusiast.
If I spent more time shortwave listening, I would for sure subscribe. But for now it is still fun to pick up a copy once in awhile.

Indispensable!

MT is the best single source for the hobbyist. I have not yet renewed for 2002, but plan to do so ASAP. Professional, slick and well-built from cover to cover. For the nerds among us, it is also available online, but I prefer printed material to anything on the internet.
It has really improved since the days when Larry Magne was a staffer, although it took awhile to see the present high standards evolve after his err.....departure.

No, it isn't perfect. It's printed on cheap paper, and isn't slick. But there is a ton of good info in it every month. The reviews are at least honest enough to mention problems like intermod, unlike Pop Comm. I for one don't miss Magne at all, he was too biased towards Drake products, but then again, he always has been.
