Great rig  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
The Jupiter is a great rig for the money. You can get a little better receiver performance
if you spend at least another $1000 or more, but from all the "top end" rigs I have owned and operated over the years, not enough to be worth the extra money.

The radio is very user friendly. Most people could operate it without opening the manual!
The DSP filters work very well. Both receive and transmit audio is great. The display is very easy to see, even from an angle off to the side. The only thing I would wish for is the auto notch to be within the AGC loop.

About the "Band" button. I haven't used the band button on any rig I owned. I always use the memories to change bands. Mainly, because when I do change bands, I always like to start on that band, from the same place every time. Makes things much more convenient to me.

The future of things to come  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Its about time, man I am so tired trying to keep up with technology (ITS A PC THING). Ten-Tec will, with dought, be the next Microsoft of HF Tranceivers. Do yourself a favor, call Scott at Ten-Tec, order a Jupiter, they have payment plans to suit everyone. You have nothing to loose. There are just to many features to list here. Try the rig out for 30 days, if you dont like it send it back. But, you will like it. Then visit N4PY's
web site and download some real cool software to use to operate the rig.(you have'nt seen anything like this before). I could not find anything I did'nt like about the Jupiter. I'm still finding different ways to use the filters and the "NR".
After using the Jupiter you will wander why you ever forked out $2500 bucks or so for a rig that will be obsolete in a few years. With Ten-Tec you get an up to date rig when you download the new software. (for free)
Ten-Tec....Thank you very much. 73's

5 out of a 5  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I could not locate someone in the Atlanta area that owned one. Ham Vacation comes around. E-Mail to Ten-Tec, said "Coming to Visit". Drove up last Sunday afternoon. Arrived at their front door just after 8AM. Visited Sales Room, where there is one of every radio they produce. Sat down in front of the Jupiter with the manual. Read basics, had antenna switched to 20Meters. Listened and adjusted around the band. Called CQ and requested reports of signal and audio. Got 5/9 with great audio. Listened more with incoming storm and static. NR works great, adjustable BW on receive enhances receive. Try before you buy works great. Left 1 hour later with brand new unit. Opened box in parking lot, set radio on passenger seat, connected to 12V40A Gel Cell, and connected to 20M Ham Stick on roof of car. Worked 20 meters all the way to my 5-Land home in NE Miss. Drove back home to Alpharetta on Wednesday, installed as primary Home Rig. Works great, have adjusted W2IHY equalizer to rig, tested on air with wonderful results. I really believe this is the last Fixed Station Ham Radio I will have to buy for a long while.

Most Bang for the buck!!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I got my radio on Dec. 1st. I have made more DX contacts than in all of my 8 years as a ham. The idea of Ten-Tec is that you cant talk to them if you cant hear them you can hear static off a mouse 100 feet away.....Well not realy but.. up till now, if I can hear them I have talked to them. I have got very good reports on SSB and CW I have down loaded the flash program and up-graded mine once now I have two more functions I dint have at first. I only see it getting better as time go on and for the price you cant beat it if any one has question just e-mail me or just buy one you want be sorry!!! DEAN

no atu  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I would buy this rig tomorrow if it had a built-in atu. My K-2 has me spoiled,I love pushing that "tune" button and watching as my swr tumbles to nil! As I search for a higher power rig, I now find I completely tune out those w/o the atu. Come on Ten Tec, I would love to buy this radio!

The best rig I have ever owned at any price!  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I purchased a new Pegasus approximately one year ago and it was certainly worth the wait. I do not own the Jupiter but it is identical to the Pegasus except for the front panel. I was licensed in 1957 and this is the best rig that I have ever I owned at any price. . I had some problems with it initially and returned it to the factory. No questions asked they shipped me another transceiver immediately. I love it and look forward to many years of enjoyment. The upgrades to the software are all material and easy to download.

Great Job Ten-Tec!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I will save everyone a bunch of reading and myself a bunch of typing because you probably have read the review by WA6GDU. I am EXACTLY like him in so far as I also like to "grab and go" rather than waiting for deliveries. (I do PAY for the items that I grab!)
I am in complete agreement with his review. I have used the Jupiter as a stand alone rig AND as a computer controlled radio. (Pegasus emulation mode) I have a Ten-Tec Omni VI and must say that the Jupiter is very close to it in terms of receiver sensitivity. The Jupiter has a general coverage receiver and it is excellent. I have as much fun SWLing as DXing!
ENUFF SAID! I love the Jupiter and it was worth the wait! ONE POINT to anyone considering a Jupiter- - - get the remote pod! It allows direct frequency entry and has several other advantages as well. It is well worth the extra expense in my humble opinion. 73's BILL
PS; I also have a Kenwood TS-570DG. It is also a good rig. It is hard to compare but I would give the edge to the JUPITER due to IF ISP and other features

Needs a little work  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Received the radio on Dec. 1th. Very nice audio both transmit, es rec. Also very nice on CW. PBT is very very good. However a few problems. The memory does not save the correct operating mode. I talked to TenTec es was told that it will require a software upgrade to correct the problem. The audio monitor will not detect changes made in the BW using the TX filter's. Very nice little radio, es it is American Made. The NR system works better than the Mark V . Not bad for a radio that is about one third of the cost.

WOW! Out of this world  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
OK, I've waited for two months for this bundle to arrive and I've been a bit cranky because I'm used to just going out and buying something and bringing it home NOW.
The new Jupiter (you can read all about the specs on the link) arrived in perfect condition. I chose Ten Tec because of their fast and dedicated service reputation. This after reading many horror stories and reviews about getting service on imported rigs.
This is a first impression after only a few days of use. I know there is a lot of interest so thought others might know the rig is now being shipped. According to their web site the first production run is sold out and they are taking orders on their next run due to ship at the end of December.
This rig is quiet. The reciever is very senstitive and the controls are easy to use and figure out. It is smooth and has a feeling of quality. It handles all bands from 160 to 10 @ 100 watts out. It appears that ALL rotary controls are encoders so there are no pots to get noisy over time. The screen is big with a lot of information. It never seems cluttered. Well organized.
All contacts I've made so far get unsolisited comments about quality audio. I'm using TenTec's mike. I've been a ham since 1959 and find the DSP noise reduction and automatic notch to be magic. The rig uses rotary controls for the most logical functions. One of the rotary controls is a mult-function affair and allows you to change a variety of functions such as audio, RF gain, mic gain, power, etc. A simple push of one of the lower buttons engages the multi-fuction category.
The band sweep feature is useful and I use it as I seach through the band. The tuning knob is big enough and is easy to use over long tuning sessions. The S meter is a bar graph with numeric display showing signal strength, for example S8+3. If you're used to the analog meter view you may not like this but I find it just fine although giving someone a 3 over 9 is not cool.
I have not connected this to the computer, that's another adventure, but I have read the manual and downloaded the software from TenTec's web site. You can also download upgrade software for the computer and upgrade its ROM immediately. TenTec says they will continue to provide new features and updates this way. That is refreshing. They also have their programing directions on line for those who want to really get into it.
Anyone who has experienced some of the new ham equipment with all those fancy computer, multi-function buttons will appreciate how simple this rig is to use.
I'm not a contest person but I did tune through the 10 meter contest this weekend and fond the selectivity very adequate on a crowded band. The 24 bandwidths on receive give you a lot of control over adjacent QRM and the knob is dedicated so its always there.
The transmit section seems bullet proof. It doesn't appear to have any wierd ghosts. I did find a few internal receiver birdies tuning outside of the 10 meter band.
All controls are where you want them. Phone jack, key and mike jacks on the front panel. I would prefer to have a dedicated volume control instead of making that part of the multi-function options. There is a dedicated pass band tuning knob that I believe would be more appropriate to have on the multi-function control and leave the volume as a stand alone control. This may be changable in software but the knob would have to be relabeled. Again this is a minor issue, but change to think about.
All in all, I am very pleased with my new Jupiter and can certainly recommend it to others. I know there are other rigs that cost a lot more, but, for the price the Jupiter fits the bill!
