New firmware improved things.  Time owned: more than 12 months
My initial review was a 0 of 5. I'd forgotten that I left that review until searching later on this unit. I did contact the vendor over my unit. They asked me some details about my setup and emailed me a replacement firmware for my unit pretty promptly.

It was easy to update, and the new firmware worked the way it should. I didn't really trust things because of the initial behavior, and I can't say that I've run it enough to confidently give it a 5 with the new firmware. But I did run it and find things working.

My impression is much less negative than it was initially, and I would no longer say that I'm "afraid" to connect this charge controller to equipment.
