Great little HT  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I purchased one of these from a ham-radio event. Already having a Baofeng BF-888S, I had just expected another facelift. The layout and controls are the same as the BF-888S. The shape and casing front are an improvement in my opinion. The battery voltage is now an 1800mAh 7.4V type. The supplied charger is specific to the BF-A5.

I was unable to programme the radio with CHIRP, but had no problems using the software download from the Baofeng website. Transmit power is about the same as the BF-888S and is more than adequate for nearby repeaters and local contacts. From my QTH I can work through a repeater over 17 miles away with the supplied antenna, which is slightly longer than the one supplied with the BF-888S

If all you want is a simple to use 16ch cheap HT, it does what it says on the box. It isn't a Yaesu or Icom, but for the price it is a real bargain. These radios are being heavily discounted, so you may get one for much less than the indicated price. If you and your partner are licensed hams, buy two!
