Best I Ever Owned  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
Of course I never owned those upscale imported ones, but the Kent is I think a superior product in it's price class.. well made quality components and design. Does not "walk" across the table when "pounding" due to it's heavy weight. Why buy a Bencher when for the price of a couple of Latte's you can own the Kent?

Best in its price range  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I gave this one a 5 because of its price range.
1)
The kent paddle is totally solid. I have a need for more than 2 pounds in a paddle base. The Kent Twin paddle comes on a solid 2.6lbs base with soft rubber feet. It does not move around.

2)
I like my contact space so that I can't hear any click. I use a strip of paper that postage stamps come on for spacing. I snug the contacts so the paper pulls with resistance. I can setup the Kent this way and it stays.

3)
This is a bearing and not a pivot movement, which eliminates the tension/sloppiness inherent with pivot movement designs.

4)
The paddle arms extend almost out to the end of the paddle touch plates eliminating flex found in most paddles in the same price range.

5)
The paddle touch plates have a nice rounded edge. I touch the paddle with the tips of my fingers and there is a nice comfortable feel.

idiosyncrasies:
The springs were too long, I snipped off 1/8 inch.
The plastic plates have a slight looseness on the paddle arms. I took a heat gun and bent the plastic at the fastening screw end so that when installed there is a tension up against the arms to eliminate this.

I also have a schuurr wabbler which sits watching the kent in action.
Tony N3NZ is building me his first ZN-5B paddle on a 3lb base. So that will make the Kent move to the side when it arrives. I also use a home-brewed touch unit in a 2lb base which I think out-performs any mechanical device. But for a mechanical paddles in the $150 price range, the Kent out-performs them all.

excellent, excellent !  Time owned: more than 12 months
i have had a TP-1 for 20 years or so. i really, really like it... well, so much so that i recently bought another one. it was a used kit that had never been assembled. before putting it together, i pressed-out the bearings from the block and hand-polished every last piece of brass to an incredible like-new radiance.

the operation is very pleasing to the fingers. i like the wide spacing of the paddles, as well as their shape and size. adjustment is easy and it stays, once set.

owning two should be sufficient recommendation to anyone!

Solid Key  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I have had the Kent Key for about 8 months, and it is a very solid and smooth key. I might say that this key is probally not for operators that want a no feel reaction on the return when sending. The Kent key is for a heavier touch, like mine. With that said, this is an excellent key for a very good price. Highly recommend.

Alluring paddle  Time owned: more than 12 months
I bought this paddle key as a kit some years ago. The main body of the key was already assembled and the kit was completed in about one or two hours. I have a nice feeling with the key. The base of the key is very stable and can also be used at high speeds.

I prefer this key to the Bencher. However I tested the Begali Magnetic Classic at a Hamfest and I believe that the Begali, albeit costs more, is better. Overall, if I would rate the Bencher 3 and the Begali 5 the kent is fair to rate with a 4.

Nice heavy paddles that do not wander about your desk.
Action is as smooth as silk.
Quality product.

Very Good  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
The Kent is a very good paddle....it would be great except for one feature.
Why, oh why do manufacturers make the locking nut the same diameter as the actual contact screw. This makes locking the setting difficult because the tendency is to move both at one time. HINT..... make the locking nut ring a LARGER diameter so its' easier to lock the setting. Not rocket science!

Superb  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
This is a really superb key. The buid quality is excellent and it has a very satisfying precision/solid feel. It is easy to adjust the tension and contact spacing and once set they stay put. I have mine set to about the thickness of a piece of photocopy paper and the tension pretty light and it is a delight to use. At first I found the spacing between the paddles rather large but I soon got used to this. I particularly like the lack of bend/flex in the paddles and this seems to help the accuracy of the sending. I don't think they come much better.
