Solid!

Bought new off eBay from hoosier-man W8GEG. I've had various inexpensive paddles over the years due to my low budget for ham gear. To find such a high quality set of paddles for an economic price is a difficult challenge. I've always wanted a set of Kent Paddles, and now I have a set of my very own. Excellent quality at an affordable price. I am certain they will have a long life in my ham shack. de Jerry N5RV

I bought it used on EBay and when it arrived I wished I would have bought it new but.....with the super support from Jim at Alpha Delta and from Robert Kent (yes, Mr. Kent truly does support his products) I am a proud owner of this wonderful key! Great product! Great support! What else could you ask for? As for the feel of the key, I would rate it a 5! I never was pleased with the feel of the Bencher (sold it).

Reliable and affordable

My first paddle was an MFJ, but when I got my K2 I got tired of switching the paddle between my rigs. I was looking for a new one and I decided to go on the Kent because of the reviews here on eham and because it was affordable. After several years I can say that it is reliable. The reason I rate it a 4 is, that the feeling is a bit bulky and the space between the paddles is too wide for my personal taste.
I was offered to purchase a used Schurr paddle after I had bought the Kent. The Schurr is my favourite one now, but I still use the Kent quite often.

I like nice paddles.. I have this one for years. It was the first decent paddle I ever had, and is still a favourite of mine. I have some really good ones, including three Begalis, and I'm looking for an excuse to buy another!!
I recently stripped down ,cleaned, polished and reassembled my Kent, and have been reminded just how good, solid and reliable it is. It's really good value for money, and can compete with paddles which are three times the price.
BTW. If you are polishing up your Kent, give it a spray of clear lacquer spray ( I use ignition sealer) when finished. It'll keep the shine on it for years..

Very nice keys

I own the Twin and Single Lever paddles, and am very impressed. Nice action, good adjustment and very sturdy.
If I had to pick a fault, I'd have to say there are some very sharp edges on the brass sections, but unless you plan to drop one on your head, this shouldn't be too much of an issue (although this is possible - but don't ask!).
For the price I don't think there is a better key on the market.
regards David, VK2NU
PS. These are sold new on E-bay if you want to save a few $$$ over the price direct from the supplier!`

Excellent & Robust

In 39 years of CW work, the Kent dual paddle is the best I've ever experienced. It has sufficient mass to stay in place under heavy-handed manipulation. Its mechanics are straight forward and its adjustments, once made, remain unchanged thereafter. The brass does tarnish, but tarnished brass looks Ok to my eye. For its cost, the Kent dual paddle is a good buy. The only shortcoming I note is a shortcoming nearly all dual paddles share -- the base has more than 3 feet. With more than 3 feet, any base can wobble; with 3 feet, a base will not wobble despite the shape of the surface on which it sits. Modify the Kent by repositioning one rear foot and discarding the other rear foot: one foot repositioned to the center at the rear, and the original two feet remain at the corners of the front.

Absoloutly Brilliant

Ive just brought and built the kent twin paddle key.It is a very very good key The feel and look of the key is brilliant and works very well. It is also very easy to build and use.
I think this is better than bencher keys with the fact that it feels and looks alot better, is great value for money.
Some people have trouble keeping the key clean and preventing it from tarnishing but I e-mailed the question to robert kent and he said the best thing is to rub a little wax or vaseline on all of the brass(but just enough so you cant see it) and if it does get dirty some steel wool rubbed down the grain does the trick(NEVER use liquid brass cleaners!)

I've been using Brass Racers for some time but always felt that I would do better with a key with less play. I considered both Shurr and Bengali products but my hobby budget wouldn't budge! Eventually I bought a used Kent iambic paddle off eBay. It was a bit of a mess... literally caked with dried BRASSO! Levers wouldn't even move. Rather than get to worked up over this I took them apart and started cleaning them part by part. A few hours later a very handsome instrument presented itself. Adjustment was quick and easy.... and the feel very much what I was looking for.... light with minimal lever movement (very close contact spacing). My sending was instantly more precise than what I had experienced with the Brass Racers. I've enjoyed the Kent so much that I recently purchased a second used one for my other operating position.

I purchased my Kent Engineers Twin Paddle Key Kit back in the early '90s. It was easy to build and at the time it had the best feel of any paddles I had ever used... better than my Bencher or Vibroplex. I use it mobile now and still think it was a good buy, but its looks aren't what they once were. The brass has tarnished and despite my efforts to polish it, it's still pretty dark. The exposed steel tops of the bearing races show rust spots. It still works well but it's not very pretty.

Awesome Paddle

I have had my Kent TP-1 for about 2 months now and it is definitely suprising how good this paddle is, especially for the money. I picked mine up mint from the original owner on ebay. I use it along with a Begai Simplex and Jones Key Red Base PK-200. I am suprised how good it feels. Very nice sound and solid feel. Stays put. The Begali is a more percision key and easy to adjust. The Jones only slightly harder to adjust and it is pretty easy..leaving the Kent as the one that is harder to get set of the three but not a big deal at all. Out of all my keys, these 3 I have to class as my number ones. In my opinion it surely belongs in the same category as the other two. The Kent will remain in my shack. Best buy and performance for the money. Easily a number one key for anyone. 73 Pete W5PEH
