Great dual band alternative to the big three!  Time owned: more than 12 months
When I 1st got my ticket in 1991, I was APT complex bound and looked to VHF / UHF repeaters to talk out. Being put off by HT's from the big three then, Alinco was the attractive alternative. I've used it hard as a base, mobile, and as an HT. I did get the Diamond dual band BNC HT whip for it to make it shine to HT repeaters from +40 miles away. 5W and 2M and 4W on 440MHz. Gotten good audio reports. Low power is .5W. The only problem that I've had to take it apart for was the RF PWR HI / LO switch in the back. It still is very much usable today and very easy to keypad in FREQ's and to program. A great work horse for me to start out in amateur radio, and it continues to be so.
