Just got mine in from Universal Radio $99.95 an it now comes standard with a 1400mah NIMH batt. It also now comes standard with the VAC-10B fast charger which includes the PA-38B wall wart and the CD-30 desktop charger stand. Another good thing is that you can now charge the extra batt in the stand by itself without having to have it in the radio to charge it. It also has a light on the charging stand that is red when charging an turns green when it is fully charged an ready to go.
I really like the feel of this radio compared to the tiny little VX6,7,an 8's.
I also got the MFJ-310S window clip mount, Diamond SRH519 Antenna for it, and the Yaesu EDC-5B cigarette lighter power cord so I can use this in my pickup
I'll be back in a few weeks to let you know how good it works, but from all indications this little jewel is gonna be a keeper

I like it!

I ain't a huge fan of 2M, but since I lost the charger for my old Alinco DJ-582 I decided to get a VX-150 - plus the price was right! This little thing is neat, solidly built, LOUD audio and convenient. I can accidentally drop it (unlike my past HT's) and not have to wonder if it will still work! I like it better than my old VX-6R, mainly because it's way simpler to use. This is only my second Yaesu product, I say well done and worth the money.

Solid Little Rig!
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|

Just holding this little guy, you can tell it is durable. Not a ton of bells/whistles, but that isn't why I bought this radio. I was looking for something eary to use and reliable that would power up and hit the local repeaters while I am out and about, either in my hometown or out on the road somewhere. The 150 is exactly that, it has never given me one second of trouble, it is a known quantity. Of course, you have to replace the stock antenna that comes with the rig, but that is pretty much every HT these days. If it had a BNC connector, I would use my ANLI AL-800 with it, but the SMA connector and adapter get bulky on top of the radio.

Great HH & no latch issue after "quick fix"
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months
|

This is a very sensitive 2m HH, and it's built like a steel brick. Battery life is better than others I've had using the same type. I did change the rubber duck for better performance. Menu is very easy to use. I had the battery latch problem until I tried a reviewer's "quick fix", and now the battery snaps in very tightly with much easier latching, and unlatching. It does seem the rubber seal is over-kill unless you're using the HH under water. I would recommend this HH to anyone who wants high quality and performance in a low priced radio.

I think its foolish to remove the rubber gasket around the battery. Be glad it is snug, use a dime to manipulate latch.

Quick Fix Battery Latch Problem

Remove the rubber seal on the battery, and you will be able to latch, and unlatch the battery with your fingernail. It's a really nice 2m handheld, and I'm very happy with it...

Correction to my last review
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
|
Well, in my last review, I faulted the Vx-150 for only having a way to lock the keypad and not the tuning dial. As pointed out by another ham, you can lock both the keypad and the tuning dial by hitting the function key + the #6 lock key, which engages the lock feature. However, you have to go into the menu and assign what controls you want locked out when you engage the lock feature. I had mistakenly only added the keypad to the list. SO, this can be taken off of the annoyances list in my review. Thanks, -Ken

Great radio

In response to the previous post about not being able to lock the tuning dial. Function button and # 6 (Lock) does it for me....as per the instruction book.
I have had t for about 4 years and they have been great radios....worked many local public service special events. Order extra battery cases and use NiMH batteries, or use a power cord adapter and connect to a battery pack with D cells. (5000 Mha)
