Our club (Skyview Radio Society) does a lot of RTTY contesting and we were looking for an effective way to increase our 80 meter score.

We do not have the room for a 4-square but we could fit a dual vertical phased array. DX Engineering has the DVA-80-P and that fit exactly what we were looking for.

For radiators we used two Rohn 24 foot BX towers with long stingers out to @ 67 feet and 60 radials (sort of - read on). The instructions were quit clear and any questions I had were handled quickly by the staff at DXE. Tuning turned out exactly how the instructions described. We cut our own 75 ohm phasing lines.

We used the array last weekend for CQ WPX RTTY and all I can tell you is that despite so-so band conditions we left our old 80 meter score in the dust! We also have a high 80 meter dipole and the array consistently beats the dipole, especially for DX. Add to this, we ran out of good weather last fall and we still need to add another 30 radials to make a total of 60. The SWR in all three positions is very broadbanded and the phasing box handled our high-power at very high duty cycles with no problems. It is also very nice to be able to quickly switch directions with a twist of a knob.

We are very happy with the outcome of this project and looking forward how she works with all 60 radials down! Nicely done DXE. CU on the radio at K3MJW/WX3SKY! DE WC3O, Bob
