Almost the best radio I ever bought!

This radio is well built, and long battery life.
I do not know what to say other than it's a great radio.

This is a very good 220 handheld. I have used it now for over 6 months and here are my observations.
Pro's
Good audio, both TX and RX.
Very easy to use, really don't need to read
the manual to figure this one out.
Price, about $170 mail order.
Con's
Few stock memories, (10) But expandable!
A bit large.
All in all I like it better than the Icom 03at it replaced.

Good performer for $$

Good audio, TX and RX. Easy to use. Has decent receive. Overall a good-solid handheld for this band.
Cons, A bit big by modern standards. 0nly 10 stock memories. No "s" meter. Cannot hear dtmf tones on TX.
Compared to the Pryme, (JUNK) or the Yaesu, (Cost), this is, in my opinion, the best deal for a new 220 handheld as my radio was $169.00 new!

Good HT, good price

I really am happy with this HT! It has good audio, TX and RX. The programming is no more cryptic than the average. It came with a 12V nicad pack, good for 5 watts out. Stock is 10 memories, expandable to 50 or 200, using the same memory modules as several of Alinco's HTs.
The only things I wish it had were an "S" meter, and a larger display.
With the 5 watts out it is more than adequate for the variety of 222 repeaters in Southern California. Much cheaper than any of the other 222 HTs I looked at, and easier to program and use than some of the higher prices rigs.

A nice solid 220mhz HT

I bought my Alinco DJ280TH from eBay. The seller bought it new at a Hamfest in AL. I have had it about a week now, and it is my first 220mhz radio. So far, so good.
It is a well made, solid unit, it doesn't feel like I'm holding something made out of playing cards.
The button functions are clearly labeled, and there are regular twist-knobs for volume, squelch, and tuning. It has jacks for speaker/mic, and the seller included one in the auction for me.
I also got the drop-in charger with it.
There doesn't appear to be a jack to operate the radio directly from house current, I imagine it can be done with an adapter that slides in place of the battery pack, similar to the Pryme HT's.
My 2 main complaints about the radio are:
1) Can't use the DTMF number pad for direct frequency entry, must use the knob
2) Default configuration only has 10 memory slots, but it is upgradeable to 50 or 200 slots
If you want you can change the tuning steps. Also, while moving the tuning knob, if you hold down the F (function) button you will move by Mhz instead of Khz.
The manual is OK, it doesn't appear to be Japanese-English as some tend to be.
There is no "trouble-shooting" section though, that I have seen in some cases.
I am getting a 220mhz J-pole antenna soon so I can really give this rig a run for its money.
