Great System - Very reliable

My RTS system has been up for 12 years now, without one problem. This is a super way to turn many antennas in a stack. You can split the tower to turn at any height. For instance mine is fixed below 85 feet and turns above 85 feet to 150 feet. I have the lower antennas on 20 and 40 meters turning on separate side mounts below and on the RTS system above so I can beam in two directions at once.

Built to survive nuclear attack. If the tower ever comes down (and it would take massive winds to do that) you could probably re use the RTS stuff with new tower sections and guys, it is that stout. Well designed, well made, well documented, well supported. My 55G installation is about 18 months old now, but I know of several 25G and 45G systems that have been up for 10 years or so. Dick, K5IU, supports things well and is easy to get a hold of. It's a specialized product, and it's not cheap, but in this application you shouldn't trust cheap. I don't know of anything as good, much less anything that is better.

In the US, about three options are commercially available for rotating non-mast-mounted antennas a full 360 degrees. RTS is the best one I know. Dick Weber, K5IU, a mechanical engineer, knows towers well and makes beautiful hardware for rotating Rohn 25, 45 and 55 towers. Although it is not inexpensive, this hardware is very rugged, heavily galvanized, and easy to install and maintain. The systems must be installed as the tower is erected, but include provisions for easy maintenance, and even replacement of the main tower bearing, without taking down the tower. The materials and support are first-rate; RTS hardware looks in every way as if it were made by Rohn. K5IU provides a mechanical analysis of your particular installation with the purchase of a system as well. I have direct experience with RTS hardware on Rohn 25 towers at K1KI, K2DH, N2WK and my own station, and on Rohn 45 at N8RA. Every one of us is very satisfied; two of these systems have been operating for more than ten years with no trouble. If you want the utility of a rotating tower, this is absolutely the way to go.
