Excellent Service  Time owned: more than 12 months
I recently discovered that my TS-480sat had no RF output on CW mode only, all other functions worked as expected. I sent it to Kenwood Service Center East, promptly received an email telling me they had received it and giving me a claim number. A few days later I received an email with an estimate of the repairs required and a price, to which I gave them the go ahead. A couple days later I received an email from their shipping service telling me the rig was being returned via UPS/COD which is what I had requested and was also informed the cost was almost half of what was estimated. Return packing was excellent, and all in all a very satisfactory experience. No complaints here what so ever. Total turn around time was 16 days and that included the Labor Day holiday.

Quick and Reasonable  Time owned: more than 12 months
Sent in my TS-2000 (victim of an owner-inflicted wound) to Kenwood Service East via FedEx ground on a Monday. By Wednesday, I had a receipt email from the facility. The next day, it was on it's way back to me. I received it back here in Michigan on a Tuesday (8 day turn around). Packaging on the way home was better than I provided on the trip in. Best of all, the radio was repaired and seems to be working in every respect. Given what it must cost to maintain a trained staff, stock parts, track work through the system, etc, I felt the price was very reasonable and well below their "typical" estimated fee.

Steve and his gang do a good job.

Godd service experience  Time owned: more than 12 months
I recently (3-07} sent my TS-870S in for repair, lost of output power. Shipping and repair only took 7 days total. Shipped on a Thursday and had my estimate the next Monday. The cost did not go over the estimate and received a 90 day warranty on parts and labor, now that is service.

Things have changed for the worse  Time owned: more than 12 months
I'd previously had two good experiences with this company, one documented in an earlier review, and a second last fall with a TS-850. In the latter case, I had a good, but short conversation with someone of obvious technical competence to make sure that my problem was something they could fix before I sent it in. I got that assurance, sent the radio, and got excellent service.

Imagine my surprise (and disappointment) last month when I called to ask about microprocessor problems with a newly purchased VHF/UHF radio before sending it in. First I was greeted with a seemingly interminable diatribe about their policies, charges, and disclaimers. Finally, a non-technical telephone answerer who would only tell me where to send the radio, and could not connect me to anyone technical. And the manager was too busy to talk to me. Two weeks later, he still hasn't called me back.

I returned the radio for credit. And I won't waste time calling Kenwood East again.

Horrible!  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
Five months ago, I sent them a Kenwood TS-50. The radio had been in an unopened factory box until 5 months ago & then I put it on the air. The tx & rx went out after a few hours of operation. So, off to Kenwood it goes.

After about a month, I get an e-mail saying that the part needed is on back order & repair cost would be almost $300. After 2 months (and many e-mails) I receive an e-mail saying the part is in & the radio should be repaired soon. After 3 months I contact them & they say that they never sent the previous e-mail & the needed part is still on back order! After 4 months, the previous cycle is repeated. After 4 1/2 months, I am again notified that ... oops ... they don't have the needed part (and again, no one knows how I received the e-mail). After 5 months, they still could not give me any information on how long it would be until the radio was repaired ... so I had them return it to me.

Communication was horrible. The place seems like a zoo. Everything about my experience was confusing and horrible!

Would NOT SHIP my "DEAD DOG" to them!!  Time owned: more than 12 months
My 26 year old KW TS940S would NOT transmit so I shipped it to KSE. Turn around was impressive, 5 days, until I opened the box!! Just a hand written note stating that the repairs would cost more than the rig is worth!!!! Cost me $100 to ship up & back. They had the nerve to CHARGE ME $60 with NO EXPLANATION OF WHAT WAS FOUND!!! I WOULD NOT SEND MY DEAD DOG TO KENWOOD SERVICE EAST!!! I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT SPENT $160 FOR A STUPID NOTE!!! "F" ME ONCE IT'S ON YOU, "F' ME TWICE IT'S ON ME!! I HOPE THOSE THAT SEND THEIR BELOVED RIGS TO THESE FOLKS, DON'T GET THE SAME SERVICE FOR A $160.00 THAT I RECEIVED!!!

Kudos  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I had a warranty issue with a TS-2000. Only two of the display brightness settings would function. Kenwood East (avsl.net) in Virginia Beach discovered a solder bridge and did the repair with remarkable turn-around time. Kudos to them. It's been reliable since.

Great service, fast  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I took my Kenwood TS-870 to the UPS store at noon
on Monday to ship to Kenwood east ( Virginia Beach) 235 miles South East of my Home. It was in need of repair to the receiver and alignment. My 870 was repaired at a reasonable price and arrived at my door step at 4:00 PM on Thursday. All in 76 hours. GREAT Service! Thanks, WX4C

Very Fast Turnaround  Time owned: more than 12 months
I had a problem with my TS-2000. Followed Kenwood’s instructions for submitting a radio in for repair. I am located near Philadelphia, PA and shipped UPS ground on Friday. UPS said it would arrive in Virginia Beach, VA by 5 p.m. on Monday. At 5:20 p.m. on Monday I get an email from Kenwood saying they received my TS-2000. On Tuesday afternoon I get an email stating radio is fixed and has been shipped. On Wednesday (next day) UPS delivered my repaired radio. I was expecting at least a week or two turnaround, I could not expect anything more.

Cost me $176. In the package was a brochure for Audio Video Service Labs, they fix about 30 brands of electronic equipment including the Kenwood line.
