Very susceptable to RFI  Time owned: unknown months
Bought the unit new at Dayton in May 1999 from the manufacturer based on the impressive demo at their booth. It performs fine when running my HF station with no more than 100 watts output on SSB. As soon as I increase the transmitter power over 200 watts the audio output from the unit is very distorted. The problem is present when powering the SpeechMaster with either an internal 9 volt battery or an external 12 volt DC supply. Also if you use an external AC supply you must remove the internal battery or else the battery gets very hot. Bad design re this problem. Other than this RFI problem the unit is great. I do not have an RFI problem when I use my old Nel-Tech DVK-100 Voice Keyer. At the moment I have a new paper weight in my shack!!
