Great antenna for QRP
Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I bought an ATX15 from Waters and Stanton in the UK for use with the FT817. It is about 4 feet long, base loaded, telescopic whip with a BNC connector. Used with an 8 foot wire counterpoise on the FT817 it works very well (4 continents handheld so far) on 15m. By adjusting the length of the telescopic section it can also be used on 12m and 10m too. So far I've only worked handheld on these bands into Europe from the UK but reports are good still. It is much lighter than the ATX Walkabout and so is better suited for use on the FT817 top BNC connector. It would work equally well on other handheld QRP rigs or static mobile with a BNC socketed mag-mount.
There are other antennas designed for other HF bands but I've yet to try these.
