Great backup!
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months
|
Recently I bought this handheld to have a backup transceiver when going on a hike or vacation. In those cases I don't want to take a lot of stuff and I always use 2m for local communications.
This portable has a few features that you won't expect for this money:
- alpha-numeric names (6 characters) for each of the 40 channels
- key-lock
- anti theft alarm
- mosquito repeller (!)
- 5 Watts of real power
- lightweight
etcetera
This device has only a few buttons and a rotary switch on top. Volume and squelch have to be set by pressing VOL or SQ and then turning the knob. A bit unhandy, but it doesn't bother.
A tip for new buyers: the batteries in the accupack are only running 600mAh and I changed them for NiMH batteries of 1600mAh... twice the capacity and no memoryeffect. The batterycase is easy to open.
All in, it is a very good buy for me. I have a KENWOOD th-79e but it is a bit too expensive to use outdoors when it rains or can get dirty. This thing provides me with 2m at 5Watts and it is rather cheap.
My advise: B U Y I T !
Therefore I give it 5/5!
