Little Tarheel II & Model 75  Time owned: more than 12 months
I use both the Little Tarheel II and Model 75. The Little Tarheel II with the 32" whip, and the Model 75 with the 72" whip. I use them mounted on the left rear quarter panel of a four door sedan using a Hank Breedlove ball mount with an Icom 706MKIIG at 100 watts SSB. I tune them with the supplied switch.

I have used a Hi-Q 4-80 (excellent), Hamsticks, and an Outbacker HP before. I found the Hi-Q too large for routine use, and the Hamsticks and Outbacker required me to get out of the car when changing bands.

The Model 75 has an edge over the Little Tarheel II on 75 meters. Summertime operating with either antenna at 100 watts SSB is a novelty. You will be able to contact base stations but it will certainly not be an "armchair" experience for those you are trying to have a QSO with. From 40 meters to 10 meters both antennas do very well for their size. Again, the Model 75 having a slight edge over the Little Tarheel II. What I love about the Little Tarheel II is that it receives well. Even on 160 with the coil extended to maximum length. I have had some very enjoyable winter time rag chews on 75 meters with it. On 40-10, if I can hear them, I can work them comfortably.

I can park my car in the garage without the antenna hitting anything. A definite plus during long Minnesota winters. The Model 75 is pretty much the same with the before mentioned increase in performance. I use the Little Tarheel around town and the Model 75 during trips out of town.

These antennas are well made; I have run them through several Minnesota winters. Service after the sale is great. Neither antenna has needed repair, but when you call or write with questions, reply is prompt and helpful. They don’t perform as well as the Hi-Q 4-80, but they beat the Hamsticks and the Outbacker on the lower bands. Their size is very manageable and you certainly get what you pay for.

Little Tarheel 2  Time owned: more than 12 months
Best little antenna I have ever owned ! This little guy works like no other antenna I have ever had on the trunk of my Ford Taurus. Also FYI when some people tell you that it will tune to 160M with a 12 foot whip I can tell you they are not lieing too you. I bought a 12' Telescopic whip at the Orlando Ham Fest from MFJ with There quick disconnect adapter and I was impressed that it tuned and I thought ok but how well will it work? Well so far until the band comes back into play I have worked 20 confirmed States mobile just parked in my parking space where I live in Coral Springs,Fla. The longest contact was Utah and I received a 5x5 Report with this antenna and an Icom IC-706MK2G with only 100 Watts..The whip will cost around $30 so what do you have to loose..It does work and the antenna has preformed flawless for 5+ years and no problems and yes i know its not the best but for the money they work GREAT ! Just remember you can NOT drive around with this whip on it ..IT WELL BREAK as it is telescopic and hollow..lol...73's and I always recommend this antenna too all of my ham friends who are tried of pulling over to change the antenna for a different band. Take that into your consideration when buying an antenn for HF mobile.

Little Tarheel II  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
Since I did not plan on 6 meter mobile use, I added the 56" whip and am more than pleased with the performance. Even though it brought the investment up considerably, I also added the N2VZ turbo tuner. This combination with my FT857d has worked very well.

M-100 WINNER  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have had my M-100 around five years now an its works GREAT don't use it all the time but when I do I had a 2" receiver added to the side of my hitch so the M-100 is on the back left driver side of my RAV-4 very low SWR on all bands the antenna was designed for. I run an Kenwood 480HX 200W radio. Last year when on a 2500 mile vacation loop, through California, Nevada, Utha, and Arizona, the HAMS that I Rag Chue on 75M with in the morning say my mobile always sounding as if I was still at my QTH ( arm chair copy). My home setup is an ICOM 756PRO3+ a PW1+ a SM20 Mic using a inverted Vee at 40' guess the M-100 works rather well on the RAV-4. I could not be happier with the Tarheels M-100 an the service I have receive from Robert and Cindy an all of there employee's that I have delt with over the years. If anyone ever needed a model for how to build a winning company, look no further, Tarheel Antennas is the company..............KB6HRT

Lovin' It  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Bought the 300A for my JEEP Wrangler. It is built like a tank. As a member of an area SAR team, my JEEP gets used in some real tough spots. This antenna has withstood the abuse that I have thrown at it and still wants more. It has not let me down. Even with conditions being what they are, my signal gets out. And to top it off, first rate customer service. I have recommended this antenna to all my hammy friends.

Nice Mobile Antenna system  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I purchased a 400A model, I wanted a wide band range and I am a MARS operator. The antenna package is great and they supply everything you need to install your system except for the mobile mounts. They do have a varity to choose from too. A good ground is very important for a good signal. The antenna tunes well and I have received good signal reports across the country. The antenna is team up with a 857. I am very happy the company and there willingness to help with tech qauestion. I you want a top quality mobile setup consider Tarhell..

Little Tarheel II  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I just installed this antenna on my 07 Chevy Tahoe today, along with dropping a Kenwood TS-480HX in for a 600 mile drive over the next two days.

I was concerned about having to mount this on the liftgate of my Tahoe. (Grounding concerns and what not.) I'm happy to report that with the aid of one grounding strap (5 feet long) that is screwed into the liftgate at 3 places and then screwed into the main cab in three places along the top, I was able to easily match the antenna from 3.2MHz up to 72MHz. (This was determined with an MFJ Antenna Analyzer.)

My other concern about this was that since I'm using the manual tuning control, I might run into issues trying to tune it while running down the road. Again, pleasantly surprised by how easy it was. The manual talks about "Listen for the noise level to rise". This is exactly how it works.. Peak the noise, then bump it up or down one or two clicks to make the SWR plummet down to 1.5 to 1 or less.

I only made two contacts. The first, sitting in my garage was a 57 signal report into Georgia on 20Meters in the afternoon. The second was a three way conversation on 40M between a station in Denver and another in Missouri. Both gave 57 signal reports.

For easy of installation, good documentation and a very reasonable price, I can't recommend this antenna more highly. Don't think about it, pull the trigger and do it. You really won't be disappointed with the quality, easy of installation or the easy of use.

Little Tarheel II, wow.  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Seriously impressed. Had my Little Tarheel 2 for about 6 weeks now. Its been sat on the roof of my Mondeo using a triple magmount until this weekend when I took the plunge and drilled a hole in the roof. First thing I did though was to rob the 66" whip from my Sirio 3000 CB antenna which made a difference of about 4-s points on receive - no idea about TX as I didn't even bother trying beforehand, jkust put the 66" whip on.

Even using the magmount and absolutely no RF grounding carried out on the vehicle, it has performed beyond my expectations. I regularly work Stateside and Asiatic Russia from the UK on 50W, well over 3500 miles. I've even managed a JA on 20m. On the recent CQWPX contest, it was my antenna for 40m, running co-ax out to the car. Managed to get through pileups to Stateside.

This weekend I've been able to do side by side comparisons with a Diamond CP6. They perform absolutely identical on both TX and RX but look at the difference in size. I have morons as neighbours who moan at anything and certainly cast their disapproving eyes at the CP6. I'm so impressed with the Tarheel that I'm looking at getting one of the base install versions for my very limited QTH and its so understated it'll probably go unnoticed.

Build quality. Originally I was looking at a High Sierra but hadn't seen one. I saw a lightly used one at a local rally and I am so glad I bought the Tarheel. It is way better engineered and better quality. Its worth the money.

Little tarheel 2 antenna  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I recently purchased a little tarheel 2 antenna, I always used a outbacker with very good results, but, got tired of always having to move the plug for each band, so, I decided to try it out, I have a trailer hitch on the back of my little ford focus, and had a special extension make to mount the tarheel 2 antenna to, to get it higher, and still pull my trailer when I needed to, well to my surprise, I hooked it up, and i could not beleive the way it tuned right down to almost a perfect match on every band, the only thing I was dissapointed in is for the price I would think you should get a better switch for the front to control the antenna, I put a small peice of white tape on the spot for each band I use, and can see it through my rear view window, so it is not that bad tuning it, I rate this antenna a 5 because of the receive, and transmitt signals I have received, and I highly recomend this for anyone going mobile, Bill wc8i

Model 75 Stubby~Great!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I have had this antenna mounted on a plate between my roof rack on my mini van for just over a month. I am just below that 13' point for height and so far all is well.
I used a Hi-Q GQD (Giant Quick Disconnect) for the mount for the quick disconnect security factor. I use two each 3/4" copper plumbers tape to bond the mounting plate to the body of the van on the inside of the sliding door.
It tunes all bands 10-80 meters very quickly (35 seconds max end to end travel time) with the standard supplied 10' whip. I have my PF button on my TS-480 pre programmed for tune and 10 watts so it's very easy to get to a new freq even when band hopping. Who needs an auto tuner?
I have had two High Sierras (1500/1800) in the past and the little Tarheel Stubby performs just as well as they did if not better.
Robert will answer any of your questions at the drop of a hat by phone or email unlike some companies today.
I think in many applications that people are really passing on a fine antenna in the model 75. It's compact, light and will mount in many areas where bigger ones won't.
