Great antenna!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Great replacement for my previous Larson NMO2/70B antenna. I can hear distant repeaters better than before, and although I haven't measured the SWR, my IC-2720H shows it can put full power into the antenna without backing off for SWR protection. Very solid antenna, doesn't bend in the wind very much. It screwed right on my Larson trunk-lid edge mount, but on the hood of my truck. I'm happy with it!

Very happy with performance  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I installed it to the side of my truck box on my F350. Works better than expected. Well made, durable, and about 1.3 swrs. I can hit distant repeaters no problem and the simplex distance exceeded my expectations. Thumbs up!

Great antenna But!!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I just installed this antenna on my Mitsubishi Lancer. Using a new Ft-2900 this is the flattest SWR/Bandwidth antenna I have ever measured on 2 meters. So why only 3 stars? The weight. When used on smaller new cars with thinner sheet metal roofs this antenna is way too heavy. It's very stiff and distorts my roof quite a bit when I press in the whip. I'm also concerened about the large open coil in the middle. It would be very easy for a small branch to becomes stuck. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the electrical performance it received and transmits very well. However I'm returning the antenna and going to a Larsen 2/70B that has a coil closer to the base and a much thinner whip.

None Better  Time owned: more than 12 months
Excellent antenna. Does exactly as it should. 5w is all I need to work nearly all the repeaters in our metro area. Glad it was recommended by my local radio shop as one of the best.

The review about RFI....that has nothing to do with the antenna. It has everything to do with the installation and reflected rf.

A good one!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I have this antenna (in black of course) mounted on a stainless steel mirror style bracket on the side of my bed mounted toolbox.

It handles tree limbs etc very well and provides excellent service. The SWR across the public safety and LMR bands is very good. I have a duplexer installed to interface between two high power Motorola Spectras (VHF & UHF). It handles the power really well, and both radios work fine together.

EXCELLENT antenna ! ! !  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
This antenna ROCKS! I have been busy trimming others to get a minimum SWR compromise from the HAM, MURS, and GMRS bands . . . TRIM NO MORE, this is the antenna solution for that dilemma, straight out of the bag. I would honestly say you will get SOLID (<1.7:1 SWR) 2m and MURS performance, and EXCELLENT (<1.4:1 SWR) UHF sensitivity for 440 HAM (70cm) and GMRS (64cm) bands. Most 'bang' for your buck, for those not wanting to have duplexers/triplexers and multiple sticks on your mobile. Give it a shot, you WON'T be disappointed!

ntenna  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have used 2x4SR's for over a decade and have never been dissapointed. The ability to tune amateur 2m & 70cm as well as GMRS, FRM, CAP, Public Service etc is a huge advantage and an ARES favorite. Using the Goliath MFJ magmount on my truck insures that the antenna takes the full brunt of low hanging vegetation and still works faithfully when called upon. I installed RF ground straps between bed, cab, frame to radio. There is a significant increase in performance with this addition.

Fantastic Antenna  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I started out with a Comet SB-5. It was mounted to a NMO mount directly secured to the middle of the roof of my Chevy 1500 Blazer.
It was a good antenna, but there is a local group who are very active with GMRS in the area so I bought a 25 watt radio for GMRS and got my license.
Using the CA-2X4SR made a very noticable difference on not only the GMRS band, but also on 2M and 440 bands.
It transmits like an antenna with far more gain than it is rated at.
It is stiff enough not to get pickett fencing at regular highway speeds and has a fold over feature when going through low hanging trees.
I give it a solid 5, the antenna is very broudbanded with low SWR across all bands.
This is a great antenna, buy one and don't back.
If you just work one band and want an antenna with more gain, there may be better choices, but for a broad band antenna, this antenna cannot be beat. Be sure to mount it with the 3/4" hole and a NMO mount for the best ground, it does need a good solid ground to be at it's best.
I have got nothing but great reports with this antenna, it's worth every die charged.

Excellent dual band ++antenna  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I bought the mag mount version (CA-2X4SR-NMO)from Cheapham.com now priced at 56.75 plus shipping. It does not come with a Mag mount base and cable but you probably already have one from a not so good antenna. Excellent SWR out to 158 MHZ. The 440 ham band also excellent. No tuning needed. Near perfect out of the box. Highly recommended.

not having luck at all  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
i have been having major rfi issue's with this antenna ever since day one which i purchased it on 10 april 2012 from gigi parts out of alabama.

antenna is installed on a 92 chevy c1500 pickup, antenna mount is a diamond k400s and the radio is a klein electronics blackbox vhf mobile.

keying the mike on public safety frequencies 150-159 mhz and only on the ones that are programmed with repeaters causes my warning buzzer in my truck to activate.

i have one of my ares guys who has same radio, mount and antenna except he drives a 2012 jeep wrangler 4 door and he is having rfi issues.

public safety simplex not an issue and neither is 2m simplex/repeater frequencies.

i know it is the antenna due to i have replaced the antenna mount and switched to a different size coax. now have tram 3265 magnetic mount with rg58. ca 2x4 antenna is installed and warning buzzers sound.

disconnected from blackbox radio and attached to icom 2100h and keyed up on public safety, and warning buzzers sound.

the antenna attached to my icom is a hustler 2 meter mag mount and no rfi issues upon using it with blackbox vhf or icom 2100.

i really need this antenna to work since i have both a public safety call sign and ham call. i am also hoping the issue is simple to fix since we want this antenna for our two search and rescue hummers and two land rover discovery.

right now, i don't like the antenna for the simple fact of the rfi issues.
