Poor Communications & Shipping  Time owned: more than 12 months
About 3 years ago my ft8100 started having "VIA" problems on the 2 meter board so I phoned Yaesu. They said to return it for repair. About 2 weeks later, I phoned Yaesu and they said they weren't repairing the 8100's anymore so they were sending it back to me. Why didn't they tell me that BEFORE I sent it to them? Weeks later still no radio. They shipped it to the wrong address (old address in another state). It was left on the doorstep of a vacant house. This was their mistake, I gave them my current address.

Repair on 8800R  Time owned: more than 12 months
I sent my 8800R back to Yaesu service on sept 12th. I received it back from them on Sept 19th. The problem turned out to be a burnt out pre-driver and a few caps that failed. It's what happens when you key up at high power with no antenna attached. Anyway it's back now and working great. Ron @ Yaesu service was quick with the e mail. Can't say anything bad about the experience.

Good service for problem FT-817NDs  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have several FT-817ND rigs purchased over a period of three years. Decaying output power, after a few minutes of operation, was a problem with each of them. That was into a dummy load thru a QRP power meter. They were all returned to Yaesu for repair, all under warranty and within weeks of original purchase.

Yaesu repaired them to specs and in a very timely manner. I had conversations with their technicians and was treated courteously at all times. Naturally, it was difficult for them to believe three different 817s would suffer from exactly the same symptoms, but when the rigs were on the bench, it was apparent something was wrong and service was required.

Anyway, all output power problems were resolved satisfactorily. I love the little 817s and wouldn't dream of getting rid of them.

They are my station transceivers and likely to remain the only rigs on my desk.

FT-840 Service Repair  Time owned: more than 12 months
The radio was repaired, but the box was returned partially opened. Yaesu used the same box I shipped it to them. I double boxed the radio in its original box and enclosed it in another. Glad I did. I am still bothered that Yaesu was so cheap as not to tape the box better for its return. Looks like they used the cheapest packing tape available. Since the radio is out of warranty, I doubt I will ever send it back to the Yaesu service center for repair.

Very fast turn around  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I had received my FT-450/AT ( was an older one from HRO - (no one had a plane jane at the time so i bought the one with a tuner ( and i still don't use the tuner)))) for my birthday and it had quit working almost two months after i received it ( while i was in the hospital with my wife - having a baby you see). It was working when i left and when i got home after the delivery it would not turn on.

Now the good thing (besides the birth of Rowan) - The radio was repaired and returned a day before the post card from Vertex/Standard arrived stating that it would be two weeks before it was finished.

I'm quite happy with the speedy service at Yaesu US -

Great Repair  Time owned: more than 12 months
I am impressed that it took only one week to get my radio back.

They replaced the transistor and it only cost me 89 dollars with shipping.

They received it on a Tuesday and I got it back the following Thursday. Not bad at all and it works great.

VX-5 finals went out  Time owned: more than 12 months
My VX-5 HT lost it's final output power. It was out of warranty so I knew it would cost something. I mailed it off thinking I would not see it for the rest of the summer. A few days later I got a call from Yaesu requesting a credit card #. The girl said the tech would work on it soon. A week later I got a call saying it was be shipped back and a few days later UPS delivered it. I think UPS had it a few less days than Yaesu - good service!! It cost $79 total.

Fast...really fast  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
The coaxial gain/squelch knob on my FT-817 lost a fight with the floor, knocked off a table thanks to one of my cats. (I don't see them doing the same with the IC-718, somehow).

I boxed and sent out the rig, and had it back within two weeks, day mailed to day received.

The only thing slow was Yaesu's mail. The paperwork acknowledging receipt of the rig in CA arrived here in ME the same day as the repaired rig itself.
