The Best Logger out there
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I should've done it earlier - DX Lab is the best logger and Dave does a tremendous job both developing and supporting the product.
I have been a very satisfied user for about a year. No problems installing or using.
Many many thanks to Dave for this great FREE products.

Super Support - works well!
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months

I started out looking for a free / cheap logging program to install on my new computer and found DXLab Suite. Vista does not play well with many applications but Dave, AA6YQ, supports his software and all the equipment it interfaces as if you were his only high paying customer.... first rate support for freeware, unbelievable.
Double click on a spot and the rig QSYs to the DX's QRG with the mode and filters preset, make the contact and click the log button and DXKeeper is ready to upload the details into LOTW and eQSL.
Or make a contact on PSK-31 with WinWarbler and log the QSO to DXKeeper, upload to LOTW and have a confirmation within minutes...
DXLab has renewed my interest in DXing and after working them all mixed, I'm now chasing a PSK-31 LOTW DXCC. You can't beat the price.

Product & Support - Both Great!

I recently downloaded my first application of Commander from the DXLab website using the Launcher Dave provides. This process went very smoothly and without a hitch. The Commander works as advertised. I did have a problem though, but this was not the application's fault. It had to do with me using the wrong type serial cable between my TS-2000 and my computer. Kenwood only likes "straight" type RS-232C cables. I was up at 2:00 in the morning trying to figure out what the problem was and even at that hour I received a response from Dave via email helping me troubleshoot. He happened to be up when I sent my description of the problem to his email address. After some more email exchanges he called me at home and we were able to isaolate it to the cable. I have not had this kind of support from anyother supplier. If his products are as good as his service one can't ask for more than that! I plan to try some more of his applications.

Just plain great

I'm using the whole suite except for Commander (Ham Radio Deluxe has more controls for my radio out-of-the-box and I've been too lazy to work that functionality into Commander). I use the HRD bridge to DXLab so that DXLab knows what frequency I'm on and can control the rig. (great software developers working together!)
SpotCollector in conjunction with DXKeeper is really great for keeping track of what I need on the different bands and modes.
I've been using DXKeeper for a couple years as my general logging program. I've just recently signed up with LoTW and DXkeeper makes LoTW log uploads effortless.
In both of these programs, the SQL search and filter capability takes a little getting used to but is VERY powerful compared to the predefined search (callsign, date) in other logging programs I've used.
WinWarbler is great. The Broadband Decode feature is one of my favorites... it'll log every callsign heard across the waterfall. I've been doing more PSK31 work lately so I've been using WW quite a bit.
DXview and PropView are quite useful in the DX game...
Very nice software and very well supported. Thanks Dave!

I don't think I will ever understand how a software author can devote so much of his/her time to their product then give it away for free. It is mind boggling. To then offer almost immediate support for what seems like 24 hours per day...AND STILL NOT CHARGE!?!?!
Dave, the author of DXLab has not only created a first rate product, but offers the kind of support I would like to see offered by others who charge an arm and a leg. I have already migrated to DXKeeper from DXBase and I am now in the process of doing the same from MixW to WinWarbler. The quality of his software is equalled only by how well they work together. All I can say is try DXLab and I'm pretty sure you will be as amazed as I!

Works great, price is right!

Being a relatively new ham, I was looking for a good logging program. A couple of friends pointed me to the DXLabs suite. I sure am glad they did! It is a great suite of programs, including logging, rig control, DX spotting, call book look up, propagation forcasting, a PSK/RTTY interface, and a world map with spots and other data shown.
The most amazing part of this free software package is the support that it's author (Dave, AA6YQ) gives. He is a frequent contributor/problem solver on the Yahoo Group dedicated to the package (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dxlab/), and also makes frequent updates to the software.
All in all, I can't imagine a better software suite at a better price!

Spot Collector -Excellent!!
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months
|
I have only installed and tried Commander and Spot Collector, not the logging or other members of the program suite but as to those two:
The greatest thing since Sliced Bread !
It beats the pants off DXmonitor (which is a CPU hog, it loads a module that take 10-12% of ttl CPU ticks on a Pentium III at 1.4 gig!!! and very very expensive for software written as a kludge...)
DXLab is worth the trouble to battle the installer, which considering the quality of the software, it is a shame that they don't use a more industry standard and a little more user friendly (ouch!) installer... but the software is just GREAT !!!

Excellent Suite
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months
|
In short - There is none better. This suite of programs has answered nearly all of my requirements and, once Dave gets CW added to WinWarbler, will have answered them all (actually, this is his next priority, so this will be coming on line shortly.)
Download the entire suite and use it often! If you find problems or need a tweak, just shoot it off to Dave and his gang of helpers and it will likely be done.

A Great Suite of Software Programs
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months
|
I've been using this set of ham software programs now for a couple of weeks and I'm just amazed at their performance, capabilities, seamless interconnectivity and support. WinWarbler PSK31/63 and RTTY communication coupled with an extremely versatile logging program form the core, with dx spots, on line or CD call sign lookup, propagation forecasting interacting with a world greyline map, all running at the same time and interacting with each other. and... it works! Got a question or a problem? there is a Yahoo group with Dave AA6YQ checking in periodically to provide the definitive answers. Updates are posted for downloading and they install easily and uniformly, and Dave fixes bugs and implements new ideas quickly.
Downside? To run all of the programs simultaneously you'll need windows 2000 or windows xp, the system resource limitation in windows 98/me/se prohibits all of them being open at one time. But these programs run just fine, about two at a time in the older OSs. Winwarbler and the logging program will run simultaneously on the lesser operating systems.
The number of features in all of these programs would take a small book to detail.
Have some fun:
1) save up some money
2) download and install the programs one at a time, try them out individually.
3) Run them simultaneously and try out everything.
Wait, skip number one these programs are free!

The Supreme DX Aid Bar None
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

I have used almost every logging program out there. There is one extremely complex and very robust program that shall remain unnamed but is quite expensive and although good for general logging it cannot touch DXLABS for DX use. In fact, I am tempted to just drop the other and keep everything in this suite. While this other program can do most things it requires knowledge of the OBSCURE Fox Pro database to really make changes. NOT easy.
DXLABS has the best record keeping and the best award tracking for DX purposes that I have ever seen. The way the programs work together is a very strong feature. For instance, when you enter a call it is automatically looked up on the web. If there is a country database on the web that is free it automatically uses this to get the latest information. Another great feature is that data will be taken from previous contacts if they are in the log. The way this works in conjunction with a CALLBOOK CD or Web data is too much to explain here but believe me, it assures the highest possible accuracy.
Another superior function is the SPOTCOLLECTOR. This DxCluster interface works better than nay other implementation I have ever seen in any other program. With the ability to let you know what you need it is indispensable. It also will make voice announcements of stations and other data.
When something does go wrong you find the real reason to use this suite. The support is UNSURPASSED, by ANY program I have ever used. That includes paid or free. The response is always fast and always reasonable and FRIENDLY! That also applies to suggestions for improvements or enhancements.
Just try requesting things, making improvement suggestions, or criticizing the other programs. With many (not all) other programs and I include paid programs and you are liable to get roundly scolded by both the members of the group and the author of the program. That does NOT happen here and is one of the primary reasons for loyalty (well deserved) to this set of programs.
In Summary
1.Robust
2.Easy to use, a VERY good user interface
He strives to stamp out complexity here.
3.The best support
4.Responsive friendly author AND user group.
5.FREE
