Crappy  Time owned: unknown months
This is the first radio I bought around 5 years ago (the TH-79A, not the AKSS) when I first got my ticket. What a piece of junk. It looks great on paper but it really was a bad radio. The battery couldn't be charged without being connected to the radio, forcing you to buy seperate external (and expensive chargers). The DC jack on the radio was extremely flimsy and actually broke (and it's not like I was abusing the radio or anything). I sent it back to Kenwood after only having the radio a month and it took 6 weeks to get it back !! The performance of the radio was okay though, it just never worked. I ended up selling it and got a Yaesu FT-51R, a MUCH better radio. From what I've heard Kenwood radios have lots of problems, so I'd try to avoid them if possible.
