Bought a new to me TS-850 and it went nuts within a week. Seems the lithium battery leaked (common problem) and did a bunch of damage. A lesson to ALL 850 owners...have this checked! Jim and the crew thought they found the problem, only to find another place where the battery leaked into. They took the time, and got it right. A few other repair centers wouldn't reply to emails. These guys are pros, and will doing my repairs in the future.

Purchased a used FT-890AT and it had a terrible audio issue - some hams stated it was the worse they ever heard. Seller offered money back but we agreed to send it in to repair shop of my choice, which was Burghardt. They repaired it quickly and it performs as it should with excellent audio. Only reason for the 4 is the rig sat after repair was completed without being shipped for about 7 days. They sent it out immediately after I inquired by email questioning where it was. Probably just a whoops but still frustrating.

Sent a sick Yaesu dual-bander in with my observations.
Jim called with cost & issues, confirming those I stated, then repaired, sent back.
Now it works!
What else can be said...

Very good service

I had a FT-100 radio with HF RF amplifier problem (it became deaf). I tried to troubleshoot it and found that it needed a transistor or relay or something else to be changed in the RF section. This would mean removing boards, changing parts on the lower board side and much manual labor. And of course all of them were SMD devices. Even Yaesu said they wouldn't fix it. It would take me at least a day. Burghart did it all for about $160. I was amazed. Very professional and very quick. Highly recommended!

I have used "BURGHARDT RADIO REPAIR" several times over the last few years for various problems. Each and every time I received almost instant replies to questions prior to sending a radio in for repair. He takes the time to explain possible options that may cure the problem. The work is done in a very timely manner with full documentation. Every time the radio is also gone thru so as to "peak" it to its full potential. The e-mails or phone calls are always friendly. You feel that you are talking to a personal ham buddy! My latest problem was a lightning surge on the Kenwood TS-590S. Sure, 14 days seems like a long time, but the wait is well worth the price. BTW; I have ARRL insurance, and it is a class act by it self! I wouldn't be with it either. Why is it that many of the BIG RADIO dealers send their work to Jim for repair?....read above and you will realize he is completely trusted as QUALITY. Thanks Jim and your staff!

Excellent Experience.
I sent my FT-990 in because the tuner stopped working. The other repair services I called said parts NLA and preferred not to accept the order. Jim at Burghardt said to send it in for evaluation.
Four weeks later it was fixed and back in my hands (along with the bad parts) in my original packing and then some. Works perfectly. Easy-peasy process and very reasonable hourly and parts cost.
FWIW I am the original owner of this FT990.

Excellent Service/Turnaround!

I have used Jim's service before, with great results.
He told me right up front that his "shelf" was full and it would take 3 weeks+ at least before he got to my AMP (AL-80B = tube arc over). Got a call from him with my estimate after only 2.5 weeks...he needed to get these BIG boxes off his shelf to hold more radios coming in...He did 5 or 6 amp's in one day. (he works more hours than just 8 on many days!).
Repairs and shipping were within 10% of his estimate. He furnished a NEW BOX and did a NEW FOAM FILL packing for my unit, as my box had seen better days. The new tube (a real one!) came in it's own factory box. Jim always has spent whatever time was needed on the phone to explain what he was seeing or to get me to understand what the issues and repairs were.
I would use Jim's service again without any reservations!.. I would call first, or email, so you know what his shop/load is for time estimate. His level of knowledge can not be found these days in most shops...only "factory" techs approach his knowledge, and then it's just for one brand.
Give him a call...you'll like his service!
(I waited to post this until the unit was back in service for some air time...All is well...).

Fast Turn Around & Reasonable Prices

I was extremely disappointed when Jim and his people decided to stop selling amateur radio equipment. I had dealt almost exclusively with them for 30+ years. I am VERY glad that they decided to stay in the repair side of the hobby!
My Icom 706MkII suffered a nearby lightning strike and Jim fixed me right up. Took 24 calendar days but his repair charges were reasonable.
