Not worth the trouble  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
These tubes are taller then the american tubes, and they are not any tougher. When you put these into a GLA-1000B or simmilar you have to lower the RF board ever so slightly in order to get the top back on the amp! When you do this, it ends up being the lower portion on the tubes ( where the pins are ) doesnt get cooled, that equals a loud crack when the tube goes by by...Do yourself a favor, and if you cant get a 6lq6, do the mod with 6kga6 tubes made by ge. they are shorter, and you wont have to put an extra cooling fan in...

I use the Russian Military Surplus sweep tubes(Svetlana EL-509/6KG6) as replacements for the 6LQ6 in the Dentron GLA-1000 and GLA-1000B amplifiers. Gintaras Sakenas at KWTUBES in Lithuania is selling them for $13.50 each though there may be other sources. I have bought several from him and they have always been full output. I pay him with a U.S. Postal money order and I can say he is a very honest man to deal with.

These sweep tubes, unlike the American ones, are as twice as thick and heavy as the American Sweep Tubes. They do have higher input capacitance than other sweep tubes, i.e. 6LQ6, so you will have to experiment with the input circuit of the tube and the output tank circuit to get full power out, especially on 10 meters. In my GLA-1000B with these tubes I get 500 to 550 watts PEP out on 80, 40, and 20 meters and about 400 on 15, 17 and 10 meters. Check out my web site at for conversion details.

As of today the Svetlana EL-509/6KG6 tubes are selling at KWTUBES for $13.50 each.
