Does what it is designed to do...

I have two of the 4 position switches in my station, one old style I've had for 8 years, and one of the "improved" versions. Both work fine and I've never had an issue with either switch. Both switches are used everytime I operate my station.
I read one review on here where someone said that because of a label, warning that you should not take the switch apart, it is evidence of a poor designed...LOL. The warning label is there for a reason, don't be an dork and attempt to take the switch apart, if there is a problem, send it to the manufacturer for repair. Not everything in the hamshack is end user repairable.
The Alpha Delta is a good switch made by a company that will stand behind their product, if you don't try to repair the switch yourself.
When you buy a second hand switch, you take the chance that some bozo might have tinkered with the switch. That is not Alpha Delta's fault nor is it any reflection on the quality of their product if someone tampers with the switch.

best switch in the industry, bar none in

I get a kick out of the previous review. Some guy buys it at a flea market after someone else messes it up. Then he takes the back off and screws with it. We have 6 DELTA-4s in our commercial SW/MIL monitoring station, and 12 in other stations, and have never had a problem with any of them.
I talked to the QC mgr at Alpha Delta a couple of years ago and thanked him for such a good design, after we tested everything else out there and issued our approvals. He said 99% of the problems are from folks who try to "fix" it themselves and don't have the right test and alignment equipment, then they complain. He said in the 20 or so years they have had the switches they have NEVER charged for a repair. Who else can say that? But, oh no, these guys are going to "fix" it themselves!!!
We have tested and evaluated every coax switch in the market and nothing even comes close to the DELTA-4 design. The reason they say don't take the back off is to keep people like the last reviewer from messing it up, since there are no user serviceable components in there. These switches even have Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) approvals with NSN numbers assigned after extensive formal lab testing. We had to have that before designing them in here. I would like to know what evaluation gear the last reviewer has?
We have a professional station here (actually several of them around the globe for government monitoring apps) and it's ridiculous to read some of these "reviews" that aren't based on facts, but by someone who has all thumbs!
You should see the REAL performance of some of the high end HF receivers and transmitters we use, compared to the eHam reviews. You'd be surprised.
Buy DELTA-4s, they're the best out there!

Most common, but hardly the best...

Like WA8EBM I also wondered why I got a new looking $80 switch for $20 at the local hamfest. Some of the construction leaves a lot to be desired. The warning sticker on the back to not take it apart is so you can't see the poor design...
I eventually fixed it, but I hate having something in the line I have to be constantly leary of.
It will be replaced by something better at my earliest convenience

GREAT SWITCH

I have had the new Alpha Delta 4 position switch about 2 weeks now & like it even MORE than the older model Alpha Delta 2 position switch that I replaced.I needed more antenna positions on my switch so the Alpha Delta 4 was my FIRST choice. The knob is more solid on the new model than on the older model 2 position I replaced.UNLESS I get a direct lightning strike this one should last me for the rest of my life. Thanks Alpha Delta for another GREAT product!Built like a TANK. }:>)

Great Switch / Follow Up
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

This is a follow up review from the one I previously posted. This switch is a great switch. I have used some other switches in addition to my Alpha Delta and the A/D certainly wins, hands down. I purchased another 6 position switch from LDG which esthetically is certainly much nicer looking but there just isn't sufficient isolation in the switches by LDG (approx. 50db). The A/D has much more isolation therefore eliminating RF problems. The A/D is a great switch and certainly worth the money. Don't waste your time with the MFJ switches that are just pure garbage. How they can sell their switches for the same price is beyond me. The MFJ switch is literally pure garbage from the know that never works and the isolation is not as good.

Saved my radios!

Lightning has struck!
The bolt burned off the top of a 100 foot pine tree only about 75 feet from my shack. I was certain all my radios were fried, however, I have three Alpha-Delta 4-position coax switches installed. Every coax into my shack is connected to the Alpha-Delta switches.
The arc plugs blew in all three of them, and my radios are unharmed!
I feel like the luckiest guy on earth.
Three cheers for the A-D arc-plugs.

Good switch

Been using this switch for several years with no problems other than the loose knob issue mentioned by others. I e-mailed A-D and Jim and Bill sent a new knob to me on their dime, which fixed the problem. Great customer service and good switch.

WORTH THE MONEY!!

I am using 3 of the four position switches for the last year. After several years of using Fine Junk brand and some asian stuff, these are a pleasure to use and they appear to stand up very well. The detents are very positive, and I assume the knobs have been fixed. I use several wire antennas and two beams on HF with very good results. The 2 position switches are just as good.
