excellent switches

I recently bought 2 less expensive switches from another company. One with UHF connectors for my HF antenna and one with N connectors for my VHF/UHF antennas. Before long the well known quality reliability issues started showing up. On one, an unsoldered connector and the other a broken common contact. I should have known better.
I put them in the trash and replaced them with an Alpha Delta DELTA-4B and a DELTA-4B/N. Wow, what a difference in quality. The Alpha Deltas work perfectly. No measurable SWR differences with them in or out except maybe a needles width on the SWR meters, even on 440. These are built like a tank. Nothing loose or cheap about them.
I had the opportunity to talk to Jim at Alpha Delta about my antennas. He is a great guy and very helpful. I asked him about the previous post about loose knobs. He said about 3 or 4 years ago, some of the knobs from a vendor were slightly out of spec but that was corrected immediately.
Then, he told me something amazing. He said they have never charged for a return repair, warranty or not, even on some of the originals from 25 years ago. Who ever heard of that? It's no wonder they have MIL specs now. I follow that for our commercial stations where we use a number of them.
Thanks Jim and thanks Alpha Delta.

Perfect - After Free Knob Upgrade
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

I realized I have never offered a review of one of my most-used and critical pieces of equipment in the shack -- my AD Delta-4 Coax switch! It selects the rig (FT-920, Drake R8, Realistic DX-150A, or K1/other QRP) that connects to my TenTec 238 manual tuner and AD DX-CC attic dipole. The previous reviewer may not be aware that there was a batch of switches released with defective knobs that kept coming loose. About two years ago, Jim - WB4ILP - sent me an upgraded knob free of charge. Since then, it has been one of those devices that just does its job perfectly day-after-day.

Simply the best

I was hesitant in buying one only because of the price but it was one of the only switches on the market that works up to 500 MHZ. The switch is built like tank. Great build quality. The rotary switch itself moved smooth, and engages nice. Its well worth the $90 bucks. Get it.

I needed a high quality antenna switch for my 2 meter system. This switch offers 50 dB isolation between channels on 2 meters. This switch delivers. When the switch is off-selected, you cannot hear any evidence of signal on any of the un- selected channels. The switch appears to be well made, and feels very high quality when moved through the switch positions. It has a mil-spec feel to it. I am thinking about getting another one for my HF switching. This is a quality product.

DEAD OUT OF THE BOX

I bought the Alpha Delta 4 from UKW-Berichte in Germany. Position 4 was dead on arrival. I wonder, if they have a quality control? Returned it to the dealer. He was helpful, but due to delivery problems at Alpha Delta, he could not deliver an exchange switch within 2 months. Finally got my money back and bought a different brand.

The Newer Alpha Delta 4 Position Antenna Switch Has been in service over 4 years with no signs of trouble unlike the mfj 2 position switches (6 each) that loose tension on the contact arms and get erratic to just bad. the Daiwa switches work very well !! with out any problems also. 73 & GL Dave KI0Z..

I have owned this for over 10 years and have never had a problem. I have used it to switch between antennas and to switch multiple radios between one antenna. It has always served me well, even when running my amp.

Does what it is designed to do...

I have two of the 4 position switches in my station, one old style I've had for 8 years, and one of the "improved" versions. Both work fine and I've never had an issue with either switch. Both switches are used everytime I operate my station.
I read one review on here where someone said that because of a label, warning that you should not take the switch apart, it is evidence of a poor designed...LOL. The warning label is there for a reason, don't be an dork and attempt to take the switch apart, if there is a problem, send it to the manufacturer for repair. Not everything in the hamshack is end user repairable.
The Alpha Delta is a good switch made by a company that will stand behind their product, if you don't try to repair the switch yourself.
When you buy a second hand switch, you take the chance that some bozo might have tinkered with the switch. That is not Alpha Delta's fault nor is it any reflection on the quality of their product if someone tampers with the switch.

best switch in the industry, bar none in

I get a kick out of the previous review. Some guy buys it at a flea market after someone else messes it up. Then he takes the back off and screws with it. We have 6 DELTA-4s in our commercial SW/MIL monitoring station, and 12 in other stations, and have never had a problem with any of them.
I talked to the QC mgr at Alpha Delta a couple of years ago and thanked him for such a good design, after we tested everything else out there and issued our approvals. He said 99% of the problems are from folks who try to "fix" it themselves and don't have the right test and alignment equipment, then they complain. He said in the 20 or so years they have had the switches they have NEVER charged for a repair. Who else can say that? But, oh no, these guys are going to "fix" it themselves!!!
We have tested and evaluated every coax switch in the market and nothing even comes close to the DELTA-4 design. The reason they say don't take the back off is to keep people like the last reviewer from messing it up, since there are no user serviceable components in there. These switches even have Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) approvals with NSN numbers assigned after extensive formal lab testing. We had to have that before designing them in here. I would like to know what evaluation gear the last reviewer has?
We have a professional station here (actually several of them around the globe for government monitoring apps) and it's ridiculous to read some of these "reviews" that aren't based on facts, but by someone who has all thumbs!
You should see the REAL performance of some of the high end HF receivers and transmitters we use, compared to the eHam reviews. You'd be surprised.
Buy DELTA-4s, they're the best out there!
