Amazing receiver!!

I have some "top class" mobile radios such as the Icom IC-7000, the Kenwood TS-480, etc. and they all work quite well! However, the AOR 8600mkII is by far the best. It's sensitive; it's selective; it has great range.....etc. etc.! It's a bit pricey but well worth EVERY penny! I have all the slot cards and that just adds to the radio's versatility! The only bad thing about it all is when I have to shut it off for the night!

This unit is a rock solid performer!
I desided to go with this unit because of the wide rf-range, the RS-232 port and the possibility to change the filters.
The price is a bit steep but hey, you get what you pay for.
Having gone through almost all of the unidens and likes, i thought it's about time to look at the more high-end scanners.
The user interface is typicle AOR.
A bit confusing until you ajust to the AOR way of doing things.
The user manual is very well written and holds all the info you need in an easy way.
The keyboard is well layed out and backlit, so late night operations is no problem.
The VFO knob feels a bit cheap though.
It should have been a bit heavier and the clickstops a bit softer.
For options built in and as ad-ons, this baby is packed.
The ACC mini-DIN port holds all the signals you need for connecting tape recorders, modems and decoders...and what ever gadget you might think of to make your day.
The receiver performs excellent both on HF with a longwire as it does on VHF/UHF with a beam or dipol array.
I have also done some testing in the GHz range with a 900/1800MHz 9el GSM Beam and there seems to be no problem there either.
It should be said that i don't have anything to compair it with, but i get a lot of cordless traffic so it seems to work ok.
(Cell and cordless are legal to monitor in sweden)
I think this unit is a keeper!

The Best!!!!!

Just picked up the scanner/receiver today...best I ever owned!
Juts a casual listener but I have the ar8200 for portability and thought this would make a great companion for home...it is perfect! Build quality is excellent, all the features you could ever want...and I understand that you can now install a card to allow for trunked systems scanning.
Its a little expensive, but worth it if you want the best.

Hello, this unit was recently purchased to update and suppliment my scanning abilites. There are many different models that have excellent coverage and performance, but what I was looking for was a 1 time purchase of a scanner that will scan all freq's and modes, with the ability to reject intermod without affecting performance. I have connected this receiver to varies antenna's ranging from simple dipoles, vhf beam, portable whip that comes with it,diamond vertical, just to name a few. All antenna performed excellent HF ssb,cw,shortwave,am,fm-modes all were excellent if not better in certain instances as compared to a TS850,TS2000,TS790,FT840 (with respect to the bands they are designed for). Since I dont have a 2.5Ghz ant (one is on order) can't say how the coverage will be there, but sensitivity, selectivity, imd, noise ratio, and features and ease of use makes this receiver an outstanding choice. The price is more so then what many might pay, however when you consider the functions, quality of assembly, options avilable, tech support, indepth owners manual, free software downloads, it is indeed worth a serious consideration. If you are serious about scanning and are concerned about IMD,selectivity, sensitivity, perhaps take a close look at this unit. It is without IMHO one of the best receiver/scanners on the market today. Thanks for reading.
