After reading the other two reviews previously, I wonder why they never checked the two really small adjustment pots on the board (no they are not documented, but very visable). One is TX audio, the other is RX squelch. When I first installed both boards (I have 2 596's and 2 Digital boards) my digital squelch popped and the TX audio was a bit muffled. Tweaking the Squelch pot fixed the RX, and tweaking the TX Mod pot fixed the audio. With only 2 adjustments on the board you cannot go wrong.

ALINCO SHOULD RECALL AND REFUND

The 596 works great. I like the radio and its features but the digital option is very poor at best. I purchased two 596s last April and the EJ-43U digital boards. The digital boards would not work! The audio was unreadable and opened the squelched constantly. The radios with the digital boards were sent back to Alinco in Japan not the Amercian service center. Alinco's mods to the digital boards did make the audio readable but it could be much better. The mod did take care of the squelch opening constantly. I purchased another digital board recently thinking the problem had been corrected. WRONG! WRONG!
Have the dealer install the board and make sure it works before paying!!!!!!!
