Added Tuner - works great
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

An update - added the 80/160 tuner last summer; works very well. In a fairly short time, have over 80 countries on 160 meters, and now have over 150 countries on 80 meters. The tuner was easy to install and easy to configure for 160, 80 cw, and 80 ssb band portions.
Unfortunately, I will be transferring back to the Chicago area shortly and will be selling the antenna. I haven't been on the top band for long, but it was fun.

Excellent performer

I purchased this antenna and the optional winch assembly late last fall. The antenna is a very heavy duty built antenna and, at 70ft tall freestanding, is surprisingly easy to assemble and erect by one person. It appears all tubing is 6061 T-6 and the first base section is 4 inch tubing with telescoping sections to the 70ft length. The antenna has survived the winter here in Maine, including ice storms, wind etc., with flying colors and no guying. I installed approximately 90 radials of 66ft length, plugged in direct with RG213 coax and find that I can cover the range of 3.500 to 3.850 with no worse than 1.8 SWR. The final installed impedance now measures about 36 ohms and presents a good match to 50 ohm coax as is. This antenna "plays" very well in both CW/SSB DX windows of the band. If I can hear it..I can work it type of performance. I only wish I had the room for a 4 square of these! but the performance of the one vertical is outstanding. A bit pricy, but you get what you pay for.
