Not bad, but not great
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I have owned one of these units for several years, and it still works reasonably well. Bear in mind this is not intended to be a highly precise instrument; Oregon Scientific makes consumer-grade stuff that sells for relatively low prices. Some of their products work OK, while others do not fare as well.
Back to the RGR122, the reset sequence and procedure is a bit odd, but it finally works, often after several attempts.
If mine were to fail, it would be replaced with something better.

piece of crap

I received mine as a gift. It sort of worked for a few weeks and then quit. The units were separated by only 35 feet but still would not work. I pitched it. Don't waste your money on this one.

I have no problem with the signal going threw close to 4 walls and 200 ft away. It only goes in big increaments and is not accurate. Other then that its a good product

Works for me
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I have the sensor mounted about 50 feet from the display unit and it works fine - no lost communications. The self-emptying sensor works as advertised. I have other devices made by Oregon Scientific and find their instructions rather cryptic - clearly written by a very technical person and not a user of the device! The sensor measures in .04" increments so maybe not very useful if all you get is trace amounts of rain. In our area, the Lowes home improvement stores sell these for $49.95.

Short life for the dollars
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months

Got this for a 2001 Christmas present. Worked for about 8 months. Suddenly lost communication with the remote sensor. Replaced batteries on both the remote and the display, did reset. (Note:complete reset procedure is not in the manual, you have to go to their web-site, under FAQ to find out you have to reset both units, in a specific sequence). After all that, still not communicating. Oregon Scientific has a very short warranty - 3 months - on this unit. Their only suggestion was to move the unit(s) to different locations. Had to move the display to within 50-ft of the remote sensor to get communication. They advertise 300-ft - mine was originally less than 150-ft, unobstructed. Spend more money - get a reliable one!
